夫罪緣一人之身、而侵入斯世；罪之所至、死則隨之；人皆有罪、亦皆有死。

蓋吾輩之過失、不一而足、如能慎言、以免口過、則庶幾矣。若而人者、亦可謂能自勒其口、而自主其身者矣。

然自亞當以至摩西、死亡固已乘權矣。即當時之未嘗效亞當者、亦均受其累。彼亞當者乃基督（原文作「後來者」）之前影耳。雖然、恩寵之效、固非罪惡之累所得同日而語矣。夫因一人之罪、致眾受其死、則因一人之功、不更能使眾沾其恩耶？且恩賜之效、不僅抵銷一原罪而已。蓋審判雖據一罪而定讞、而慈恩則免眾罪以成義。夫以一人之罪、死亡即因若人而乘權；況在沾溉洪恩而受成義之惠者、有不因唯一基督、而乘權於生命之中乎？
