For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.

If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about— but not before God.

Did he become right with God because of something he did? If so, he could brag about it. But he couldn’t brag to God.

For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.

If his good deeds had made him acceptable to God, he would have had something to boast about. But that was not God’s way.

For in these I delight,” says the Lord.

Therefore it will happen, when the Egyptians see you, that they will say,‘ This is his wife’; and they will kill me, but they will let you live.Please say you are my sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that I may live because of you.”

And Abimelech called Abraham and said to him,“ What have you done to us? How have I offended you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done.”Then Abimelech said to Abraham,“ What did you have in view, that you have done this thing?”And Abraham said,“ Because I thought, surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will kill me on account of my wife.But indeed she is truly my sister. She is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father’s house, that I said to her,‘ This is your kindness that you should do for me: in every place, wherever we go, say of me,“ He is my brother.”’”

And Pharaoh called Abram and said,“ What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife?

For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!

For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?

not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets,even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference;for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed,to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith.Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.

So Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him; and they sent him away, with his wife and all that he had.

Therefore I have reason to glory in Christ Jesus in the things which pertain to God.

For we do not commend ourselves again to you, but give you opportunity to boast on our behalf, that you may have an answer for those who boast in appearance and not in heart.

that no flesh should glory in His presence.

And He said to me,“ Go in, and see the wicked abominations which they are doing there.”

For not even those who are circumcised keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh.But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord:I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago— whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows— such a one was caught up to the third heaven.And I know such a man— whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows—how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.Of such a one I will boast; yet of myself I will not boast, except in my infirmities.For though I might desire to boast, I will not be a fool; for I will speak the truth. But I refrain, lest anyone should think of me above what he sees me to be or hears from me.And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me.And He said to me,“ My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

But what I do, I will also continue to do, that I may cut off the opportunity from those who desire an opportunity to be regarded just as we are in the things of which they boast.
