For if Abraham was declared righteous by the works of the law, he has something to boast about– but not before God.

彼若欲以事功見稱、誠有所誇；然在天主之前、實不足多也。

If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about— but not before God.

Did he become right with God because of something he did? If so, he could brag about it. But he couldn’t brag to God.

For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.

If his good deeds had made him acceptable to God, he would have had something to boast about. But that was not God’s way.

and be found in him, not because I have my own righteousness derived from the law, but because I have the righteousness that comes by way of Christ’s faithfulness– a righteousness from God that is in fact based on Christ’s faithfulness.

Joshua told all the people,“ Here is what the LORD God of Israel says:‘ In the distant past your ancestors lived beyond the Euphrates River, including Terah the father of Abraham and Nahor. They worshiped other gods,

The LORD says,“ Wise people should not boast that they are wise. Powerful people should not boast that they are powerful. Rich people should not boast that they are rich.If people want to boast, they should boast about this: They should boast that they understand and know me. They should boast that they know and understand that I, the LORD, act out of faithfulness, fairness, and justice in the earth and that I desire people to do these things,” says the LORD.

When the Egyptians see you they will say,‘ This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me but will keep you alive.So tell them you are my sister so that it may go well for me because of you and my life will be spared on account of you.”

Abimelech summoned Abraham and said to him,“ What have you done to us? What sin did I commit against you that would cause you to bring such great guilt on me and my kingdom? You have done things to me that should not be done!”Then Abimelech asked Abraham,“ What prompted you to do this thing?”Abraham replied,“ Because I thought,‘ Surely no one fears God in this place. They will kill me because of my wife.’What’s more, she is indeed my sister, my father’s daughter, but not my mother’s daughter. She became my wife.When God made me wander from my father’s house, I told her,‘ This is what you can do to show your loyalty to me: Every place we go, say about me,“ He is my brother.”’”

So Pharaoh summoned Abram and said,“ What is this you have done to me? Why didn’t you tell me that she was your wife?

For if I preach the gospel, I have no reason for boasting, because I am compelled to do this. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

For who concedes you any superiority? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you received it, why do you boast as though you did not?

it is not from works, so that no one can boast.

For no one is declared righteous before him by the works of the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.But now apart from the law the righteousness of God( which is attested by the law and the prophets) has been disclosed–namely, the righteousness of God through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction,for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.But they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.God publicly displayed him at his death as the mercy seat accessible through faith. This was to demonstrate his righteousness, because God in his forbearance had passed over the sins previously committed.This was also to demonstrate his righteousness in the present time, so that he would be just and the justifier of the one who lives because of Jesus’ faithfulness.Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded! By what principle? Of works? No, but by the principle of faith!For we consider that a person is declared righteous by faith apart from the works of the law.

Pharaoh gave his men orders about Abram, and so they expelled him, along with his wife and all his possessions.

So I boast in Christ Jesus about the things that pertain to God.

We are not trying to commend ourselves to you again, but are giving you an opportunity to be proud of us, so that you may be able to answer those who take pride in outward appearance and not in what is in the heart.

so that no one can boast in his presence.

He said to me,“ Go in and see the evil abominations they are practicing here.”

For those who are circumcised do not obey the law themselves, but they want you to be circumcised so that they can boast about your flesh.But may I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

But the scripture imprisoned everything and everyone under sin so that the promise could be given– because of the faithfulness of Jesus Christ– to those who believe.

It is necessary to go on boasting. Though it is not profitable, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord.I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago( whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows) was caught up to the third heaven.And I know that this man( whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, God knows)was caught up into paradise and heard things too sacred to be put into words, things that a person is not permitted to speak.On behalf of such an individual I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except about my weaknesses.For even if I wish to boast, I will not be a fool, for I would be telling the truth, but I refrain from this so that no one may regard me beyond what he sees in me or what he hears from me,even because of the extraordinary character of the revelations. Therefore, so that I would not become arrogant, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to trouble me– so that I would not become arrogant.I asked the Lord three times about this, that it would depart from me.But he said to me,“ My grace is enough for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” So then, I will boast most gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may reside in me.

And what I am doing I will continue to do, so that I may eliminate any opportunity for those who want a chance to be regarded as our equals in the things they boast about.
