何以為義、在割乎、抑在未割乎、非在割、乃在未割也、

曰、然則何日得稱義耶、受割之後歟、抑受割之先歟、非後也、乃先也、

何時視為義、受割禮之後乎、抑受割禮之前乎、非受割禮之後、乃受割禮之前、

試問其若之何而成義耶？在受割之後乎？抑在受割之前乎？曰：不在受割之後、而在受割之前也。

Under what circumstances was it credited? Was it after he was circumcised, or before? It was not after, but before!

But how did this happen? Was he counted as righteous only after he was circumcised, or was it before he was circumcised? Clearly, God accepted Abraham before he was circumcised!

How then was it reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision:

How then was it credited to him? Was he circumcised at the time, or not? No, he was not circumcised but uncircumcised!

This is My covenant, which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: every male among you shall be circumcised.

Now when Abram was ninety nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him,“ I am God Almighty; Walk before Me, and be blameless.

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love.

Then in the fourth generation they will return here, for the wrongdoing of the Amorite is not yet complete.”

Was any man called when he was already circumcised? He is not to become uncircumcised. Has anyone been called in uncircumcision? He is not to be circumcised.Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but what matters is the keeping of the commandments of God.

And He took him outside and said,“ Now look toward the heavens and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” And He said to him,“ So shall your descendants be.”Then he believed in the Lord; and He credited it to him as righteousness.

For neither is circumcision anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation.

Then Abraham took his son Ishmael, and all the slaves who were born in his house and all who were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham’s household, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin on this very same day, as God had said to him.Now Abraham was ninety nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.And his son Ishmael was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.On this very same day Abraham was circumcised, as well as his son Ishmael.And all the men of his household, those who were born in the house or bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.

Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had not borne him a child, but she had an Egyptian slave woman whose name was Hagar.So Sarai said to Abram,“ See now, the Lord has prevented me from bearing children. Please have relations with my slave woman; perhaps I will obtain children through her.” And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.And so after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, Abram’s wife Sarai took Hagar the Egyptian, her slave woman, and gave her to her husband Abram as his wife.
