For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, proud, demeaning, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, without love for what is good,traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,holding to the form of godliness but denying its power. Avoid these people.For among them are those who worm their way into households and deceive gullible women overwhelmed by sins and led astray by a variety of passions,

and with every wicked deception among those who are perishing. They perish because they did not accept the love of the truth and so be saved.

These people are discontented grumblers, living according to their desires; their mouths utter arrogant words, flattering people for their own advantage.

For am I now trying to persuade people, or God? Or am I striving to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

especially those who follow the polluting desires of the flesh and despise authority. Bold, arrogant people! They are not afraid to slander the glorious ones;however, angels, who are greater in might and power, do not bring a slanderous charge against them before the Lord.But these people, like irrational animals— creatures of instinct born to be caught and destroyed— slander what they do not understand, and in their destruction they too will be destroyed.They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. They consider it a pleasure to carouse in broad daylight. They are spots and blemishes, delighting in their deceptions while they feast with you.They have eyes full of adultery that never stop looking for sin. They seduce unstable people and have hearts trained in greed. Children under a curse!They have gone astray by abandoning the straight path and have followed the path of Balaam, the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of wickedness

These people are dangerous reefs at your love feasts as they eat with you without reverence. They are shepherds who only look after themselves. They are waterless clouds carried along by winds; trees in late autumn— fruitless, twice dead and uprooted.

For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.And no wonder! For Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.So it is no great surprise if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will be according to their works.

“ No one can serve two masters, since either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Instead, we have renounced secret and shameful things, not acting deceitfully or distorting the word of God, but commending ourselves before God to everyone’s conscience by an open display of the truth.

A sensible person sees danger and takes cover, but the inexperienced keep going and are punished.

Eli’s sons were wicked men; they did not respect the LORDor the priests’ share of the sacrifices from the people. When anyone offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come with a three-pronged meat fork while the meat was boilingand plunge it into the container, kettle, cauldron, or cooking pot. The priest would claim for himself whatever the meat fork brought up. This is the way they treated all the Israelites who came there to Shiloh.Even before the fat was burned, the priest’s servant would come and say to the one who was sacrificing,“ Give the priest some meat to roast, because he won’t accept boiled meat from you— only raw.”If that person said to him,“ The fat must be burned first; then you can take whatever you want for yourself,” the servant would reply,“ No, I insist that you hand it over right now. If you don’t, I’ll take it by force!”So the servants’ sin was very severe in the presence of the LORD, because the men treated the LORD’s offering with contempt.

If anyone serves me, he must follow me. Where I am, there my servant also will be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.

Therefore, I will give their wives to other men, their fields to new occupants, for from the least to the greatest, everyone is making profit dishonestly. From prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely.They have treated the brokenness of my dear people superficially, claiming,‘ Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace.

The report of your obedience has reached everyone. Therefore I rejoice over you, but I want you to be wise about what is good, and yet innocent about what is evil.

They feed on the sin of my people; they have an appetite for their iniquity.The same judgment will happen to both people and priests. I will punish them for their ways and repay them for their deeds.They will eat but not be satisfied; they will be promiscuous but not multiply. For they have abandoned their devotion to the LORD.Promiscuity, wine, and new wine take away one’s understanding.

Israel’s watchmen are blind, all of them, they know nothing; all of them are mute dogs, they cannot bark; they dream, lie down, and love to sleep.These dogs have fierce appetites; they never have enough. And they are shepherds who have no discernment; all of them turn to their own way, every last one for his own profit.“ Come, let me get some wine, let’s guzzle some beer; and tomorrow will be like today, only far better!”

The prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah,“ Listen, Hananiah! You will die this year because you have preached rebellion against the LORD.’”And the prophet Hananiah died that year in the seventh month.

For we do not market the word of God for profit like so many. On the contrary, we speak with sincerity in Christ, as from God and before God.

They keep on saying to those who despise me,‘ The LORD has spoken: You will have peace.’ They have said to everyone who follows the stubbornness of his heart,‘ No harm will come to you.’”

The instruction of the LORD is perfect, renewing one’s life; the testimony of the LORD is trustworthy, making the inexperienced wise.

You profane me among my people for handfuls of barley and scraps of bread; you put those to death who should not die and spare those who should not live, when you lie to my people, who listen to lies.

The revelation of your words brings light and gives understanding to the inexperienced.

Avoid irreverent and empty speech, since those who engage in it will produce even more godlessness,and their teaching will spread like gangrene. Hymenaeus and Philetus are among them.They have departed from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and are ruining the faith of some.

But if that wicked servant says in his heart,‘ My master is delayed,’and starts to beat his fellow servants, and eats and drinks with drunkards,that servant’s master will come on a day he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know.He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

For false messiahs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.

The inexperienced one believes anything, but the sensible one watches his steps.

Why, then, do all of you despise my sacrifices and offerings that I require at the place of worship? You have honored your sons more than me, by making yourselves fat with the best part of all of the offerings of my people Israel.’

They say to the seers,“ Do not see,” and to the prophets,“ Do not prophesy the truth to us. Tell us flattering things. Prophesy illusions.Get out of the way! Leave the pathway. Rid us of the Holy One of Israel.”

Many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.

Learn to be shrewd, you who are inexperienced; develop common sense, you who are foolish.
