那麼便怎麼樣呢？以色列所切求的、他們竟然沒有得着；惟獨蒙揀選的人得着了。其餘的人就成了頑梗不化的；

所以怎麼樣呢？以色列人並沒有獲得他們所尋求的，蒙揀選的人卻獲得了，而其餘的人都成了剛硬的，

然則何耶、以色列所求未得、惟蒙選者得之、餘則頑耳、

曰、然則以色列人所求者、有不得乎、曰、選民得之、其餘則頑也、

然則如何？曰：義塞之所求、未之得也、其中蒙恩者得之、而其餘則已成麻木不仁之徒矣。

What then? What the people of Israel sought so earnestly they did not obtain. The elect among them did, but the others were hardened,

What should we say then? The people of Israel did not receive what they wanted so badly. Those Israelites who were chosen did receive it. But the rest of the people were made stubborn.

What then? Israel failed to obtain what it was seeking. The elect obtained it, but the rest were hardened,

So this is the situation: Most of the people of Israel have not found the favor of God they are looking for so earnestly. A few have— the ones God has chosen— but the hearts of the rest were hardened.

What then? Israel did not find what it was looking for, but the elect did find it. The rest were hardened,

What then? What Israel is seeking, it has not obtained, but those who were chosen obtained it, and the rest were hardened;

What then? Israel has not obtained what it seeks; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were blinded.

What then? That which Israel seeketh for, that he obtained not; but the election obtained it, and the rest were hardened:

What then? Israel did not find what it was looking for, but the elect did find it. The rest were hardened,

What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded

What then? Israel failed to obtain what it was diligently seeking, but the elect obtained it. The rest were hardened,

What then? That which Israel seeks for, that he didn’t obtain, but the chosen ones obtained it, and the rest were hardened.

如是、天主所欲矜恤者、則矜恤之、所欲使剛愎者、則使之剛愎、

此世之主此世之主即魔迷惑此等不信者之心、基督榮耀福音之光不照之、基督乃天主之像、

兄弟乎、我甚欲爾知此奧義、免爾自視為智、即以色列人有剛愎者、惟待眾異邦人歸誠、

惟以色列人尋稱義之法、而不得其法、此何故、曰、因非由信而求、乃由行而求、蓋蹶於此蹶人之石上、

及種種惑眾之邪惡、在將沈淪者之中、蓋彼眾不悅真理、且不受之而得救、故天主使其大謬、信從虛偽、使凡不信真理反悅不義者、悉被定罪、○主所愛之兄弟、我儕當為爾恆謝天主、因天主自始選爾、得聖神以成聖、及信真道而得救、為此天主亦以我所傳之福音召爾、欲爾得我主耶穌基督之榮、

今時亦然、猶有遺留之人、乃由恩寵蒙選者、

其心愚頑、至於今日、讀舊約時、其帕尚存未除、此帕惟賴基督可除、

所言何也、偶像豈足稱道乎、祭偶像之物、亦豈足稱道乎、

然則何歟、我儕猶太人有所、勝乎、無有、我已明證猶太人、希拉人、皆服罪、

亦自創世之先、因基督選我儕、使我儕以愛在其前為聖潔無玷者、

在是人也、正應以賽亞之預言云、爾將聽而不聰、視而不明、因斯民之心冥頑、自聾其耳、自閉其目、免其目視、耳聽、心悟悔改、而我醫之焉、

蓋彼不識天主之義、而欲立己之義、故未服天主之義、

使斯民心蒙、耳聾、目瞶、免其目視、耳聽、心悟悔改、而得醫治、

又將其榮之富有、顯示於蒙矜恤所預定以得榮之器、

主使其目瞽心頑、免其目明心悟、悔改而我醫之、

然則何也、不屬律法下、而屬恩寵下、則可犯罪乎、非也、

然此亦何妨、其意或偽或誠、無論如何、基督究以是而傳矣、我為之而樂、亦必終樂、

惟彼不知不悟、目塗不見、心蔽不明、

耶穌曰、當竭力爭進窄門、我告爾、將有多人、求進而不得進、

我儕知萬事有益於愛天主者、即循其旨而蒙召也、天主所預知者、則預定肖其子之狀、使彼為眾子中之長子、其所預定者、亦召之、所召者、亦稱之為義、所稱義者、亦榮之、○

斯時呼籲我而我不應、尋求我而不得遇、

後欲得祝福而反見棄、雖號泣求父回意、雖號泣求父回意或作雖號泣求悔改仍不能得、此爾所知也、○

即按父天主之預知蒙選、感於聖神而成聖、以致能順服耶穌基督、且得灑以其血者、願恩寵平安、多加於爾、○
