蓋萬邦因其淫亂干怒之酒而傾、世上諸王、與之行淫、諸商因其奢華之甚而致富、○

因巴比倫使諸國飲淫亂鴆酒、天下諸王、與彼行淫、邑事華靡、天下商旅、於以富饒、

因諸國皆飲其淫亂毒酒、天下諸王、與彼行淫、天下商賈、皆因彼奢華之甚、而富饒焉、○

祇緣酖彼荒淫酒、列國遭譴悉紛崩；百王受狐惑、頹然與之淫；眾賈沾餘瀝、奢侈醉其心。

For all the nations have fallen because of the wine of her passionate immorality. The kings of the world have committed adultery with her. Because of her desires for extravagant luxury, the merchants of the world have grown rich.”

For all the nations have drunk the wine of her sexual immorality, which brings wrath. The kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have grown wealthy from her sensuality and excess.

For all the nations have fallen because of the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed acts of sexual immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich from the excessive wealth of her luxury.”

For by the wine of the wrath of her fornication all the nations are fallen; and the kings of the earth committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth waxed rich by the power of her wantonness.

For all the nations have fallen from the wine of her immoral passion, and the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have gotten rich from the power of her sensual behavior.”

With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.

And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,

Babylon[ hath been] a golden cup in the LORD’S hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

The ancients of Gebal and the wise[ men] thereof were in thee thy calkers: all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in thee to occupy thy merchandise.They of Persia and of Lud and of Phut were in thine army, thy men of war: they hanged the shield and helmet in thee; they set forth thy comeliness.The men of Arvad with thine army[ were] upon thy walls round about, and the Gammadims were in thy towers: they hanged their shields upon thy walls round about; they have made thy beauty perfect.Tarshish[ was] thy merchant by reason of the multitude of all[ kind of] riches; with silver, iron, tin, and lead, they traded in thy fairs.Javan, Tubal, and Meshech, they[ were] thy merchants: they traded the persons of men and vessels of brass in thy market.They of the house of Togarmah traded in thy fairs with horses and horsemen and mules.The men of Dedan[ were] thy merchants; many isles[ were] the merchandise of thine hand: they brought thee[ for] a present horns of ivory and ebony.Syria[ was] thy merchant by reason of the multitude of the wares of thy making: they occupied in thy fairs with emeralds, purple, and broidered work, and fine linen, and coral, and agate.Judah, and the land of Israel, they[ were] thy merchants: they traded in thy market wheat of Minnith, and Pannag, and honey, and oil, and balm.Damascus[ was] thy merchant in the multitude of the wares of thy making, for the multitude of all riches; in the wine of Helbon, and white wool.Dan also and Javan going to and fro occupied in thy fairs: bright iron, cassia, and calamus, were in thy market.Dedan[ was] thy merchant in precious clothes for chariots.Arabia, and all the princes of Kedar, they occupied with thee in lambs, and rams, and goats: in these[ were they] thy merchants.The merchants of Sheba and Raamah, they[ were] thy merchants: they occupied in thy fairs with chief of all spices, and with all precious stones, and gold.Haran, and Canneh, and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur,[ and] Chilmad,[ were] thy merchants.These[ were] thy merchants in all sorts[ of things], in blue clothes, and broidered work, and in chests of rich apparel, bound with cords, and made of cedar, among thy merchandise.The ships of Tarshish did sing of thee in thy market: and thou wast replenished, and made very glorious in the midst of the seas.

And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.

But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured,[ even] thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee.

And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,

Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, he hath made me an empty vessel, he hath swallowed me up like a dragon, he hath filled his belly with my delicates, he hath cast me out.

When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what[ is] before thee:And put a knife to thy throat, if thou[ be] a man given to appetite.Be not desirous of his dainties: for they[ are] deceitful meat.

They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.

But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings’ courts.
