Should good be paid back with evil? Yet they are virtually digging a pit to kill me. Just remember how I stood before you pleading on their behalf to keep you from venting your anger on them.

Consequently a Sabbath rest remains for the people of God.

Above all, understand this: In the last days blatant scoffers will come, being propelled by their own evil urgesand saying,“ Where is his promised return? For ever since our ancestors died, all things have continued as they were from the beginning of creation.”For they deliberately suppress this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water.Through these things the world existing at that time was destroyed when it was deluged with water.But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire, by being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.

For our momentary, light suffering is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparisonbecause we are not looking at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen. For what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal.

Let cries of terror be heard in their houses when you send bands of raiders unexpectedly to plunder them. For they have virtually dug a pit to capture me and have hidden traps for me to step into.

Go, my people! Enter your inner rooms! Close your doors behind you! Hide for a little while, until his angry judgment is over!For look, the LORD is coming out of the place where he lives, to punish the sin of those who live on the earth. The earth will display the blood shed on it; it will no longer cover up its slain.

But if God is quiet, who can condemn him? If he hides his face, then who can see him? Yet he is over the individual and the nation alike,

They cried out with a loud voice,“ How long, Sovereign Master, holy and true, before you judge those who live on the earth and avenge our blood?”Each of them was given a long white robe and they were told to rest for a little longer, until the full number was reached of both their fellow servants and their brothers who were going to be killed just as they had been.

Why should I be afraid in times of trouble, when the sinful deeds of deceptive men threaten to overwhelm me?

The nations were enraged, but your wrath has come, and the time has come for the dead to be judged, and the time has come to give to your servants, the prophets, their reward, as well as to the saints and to those who revere your name, both small and great, and the time has come to destroy those who destroy the earth.”

and to you who are being afflicted to give rest together with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels.With flaming fire he will mete out punishment on those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
