轉而背之、行詐如其列祖、變其趨向、如偏反之弓兮、

維彼濟惡、屢行叛逆、無異列祖、如弦絶弓反兮、

失信悖逆與其列祖無異、改變有如弓翻、

捨正就邪。一如乃翁。不中正鵠。彷彿弊弓。

Like their ancestors they were disloyal and faithless, as unreliable as a faulty bow.

They were like their people who lived long ago. They turned away from him and were not faithful. They were like a bow that doesn’t shoot straight. They couldn’t be trusted.

but turned away and acted treacherously like their fathers; they twisted like a deceitful bow.

They turned back and were as faithless as their parents. They were as undependable as a crooked bow.

They treacherously turned away like their ancestors; they became warped like a faulty bow.

But turned back and acted treacherously like their fathers; They turned aside like a treacherous bow.

But turned back and acted unfaithfully like their fathers; They were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

But turned back, and dealt treacherously like their fathers: They were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

They treacherously turned away like their fathers; they became warped like a faulty bow.

They were unfaithful and acted as treacherously as their ancestors; they were as unreliable as a malfunctioning bow.

They do not turn to the Most High; they are like a faulty bow. Their leaders will fall by the sword because of their insolent words. For this they will be ridiculed in the land of Egypt. (niv)

Can he supply meat for his people?”When the Lord heard them, he was furious; his fire broke out against Jacob, and his wrath rose against Israel,for they did not believe in God or trust in his deliverance.Yet he gave a command to the skies above and opened the doors of the heavens;he rained down manna for the people to eat, he gave them the grain of heaven.Human beings ate the bread of angels; he sent them all the food they could eat.He let loose the east wind from the heavens and by his power made the south wind blow.He rained meat down on them like dust, birds like sand on the seashore.He made them come down inside their camp, all around their tents.They ate till they were gorged— he had given them what they craved.But before they turned from what they craved, even while the food was still in their mouths,God’s anger rose against them; he put to death the sturdiest among them, cutting down the young men of Israel.In spite of all this, they kept on sinning; in spite of his wonders, they did not believe.So he ended their days in futility and their years in terror.Whenever God slew them, they would seek him; they eagerly turned to him again.They remembered that God was their Rock, that God Most High was their Redeemer.But then they would flatter him with their mouths, lying to him with their tongues;their hearts were not loyal to him, they were not faithful to his covenant. The Israelites lived among the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.They took their daughters in marriage and gave their own daughters to their sons, and served their gods.The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord; they forgot the Lord their God and served the Baals and the Asherahs. (niv)

Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, and because they did this evil the Lord gave Eglon king of Moab power over Israel. (niv)
