築邱壇使天主不悅、拜偶像干犯天主盛怒、

高壇徧設。偶像是崇。輕干天怒。觸迕聖衷。

They made God angry by going to their high places. They made him jealous by worshiping the statues of their gods.

For they provoked him to anger with their high places; they moved him to jealousy with their idols.

They angered God by building shrines to other gods; they made him jealous with their idols.

All who worship images are put to shame, those who boast in idols— worship him, all you gods!

You must not worship the Lord your God in their way.

Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy? Are we stronger than he?

Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord. They served the Baals and the Ashtoreths, and the gods of Aram, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites and the gods of the Philistines. And because the Israelites forsook the Lord and no longer served him,

so that you do not become corrupt and make for yourselves an idol, an image of any shape, whether formed like a man or a woman,or like any animal on earth or any bird that flies in the air,or like any creature that moves along the ground or any fish in the waters below.And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars— all the heavenly array— do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshiping things the Lord your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven.But as for you, the Lord took you and brought you out of the iron-smelting furnace, out of Egypt, to be the people of his inheritance, as you now are.The Lord was angry with me because of you, and he solemnly swore that I would not cross the Jordan and enter the good land the Lord your God is giving you as your inheritance.I will die in this land; I will not cross the Jordan; but you are about to cross over and take possession of that good land.Be careful not to forget the covenant of the Lord your God that he made with you; do not make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything the Lord your God has forbidden.For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.After you have had children and grandchildren and have lived in the land a long time— if you then become corrupt and make any kind of idol, doing evil in the eyes of the Lord your God and arousing his anger,

“ You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,

How long, Lord? Will you be angry forever? How long will your jealousy burn like fire?

Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and served the Baals.They forsook the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt. They followed and worshiped various gods of the peoples around them. They aroused the Lord’s anger

Listen to the cry of my people from a land far away:“ Is the Lord not in Zion? Is her King no longer there?”“ Why have they aroused my anger with their images, with their worthless foreign idols?”

drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you. Destroy all their carved images and their cast idols, and demolish all their high places.

When I brought them into the land I had sworn to give them and they saw any high hill or any leafy tree, there they offered their sacrifices, made offerings that aroused my anger, presented their fragrant incense and poured out their drink offerings.Then I said to them: What is this high place you go to?’”( It is called Bamah to this day.)

He stretched out what looked like a hand and took me by the hair of my head. The Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and in visions of God he took me to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the north gate of the inner court, where the idol that provokes to jealousy stood.And there before me was the glory of the God of Israel, as in the vision I had seen in the plain.Then he said to me,“ Son of man, look toward the north.” So I looked, and in the entrance north of the gate of the altar I saw this idol of jealousy.

“ Cursed is anyone who makes an idol— a thing detestable to the Lord, the work of skilled hands— and sets it up in secret.” Then all the people shall say,“ Amen!”

Although he had forbidden Solomon to follow other gods, Solomon did not keep the Lord’s command.

Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel and said,“ Because this nation has violated the covenant I ordained for their ancestors and has not listened to me,

Now they sin more and more; they make idols for themselves from their silver, cleverly fashioned images, all of them the work of craftsmen. It is said of these people,“ They offer human sacrifices! They kiss calf- idols!”
