I will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter hidden things, things from of old—

I will open my mouth and tell a story. I will speak about things that were hidden. They happened a long time ago.

for I will speak to you in a parable. I will teach you hidden lessons from our past—

I will declare wise sayings; I will speak mysteries from the past—

All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable He did not speak to them,that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying:“ I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things kept secret from the foundation of the world.”

I will incline my ear to a proverb; I will disclose my dark saying on the harp.

To understand a proverb and an enigma, The words of the wise and their riddles.

He answered and said to them,“ Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.

But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples.
