Surely your wrath against mankind brings you praise, and the survivors of your wrath are restrained.

Your anger against sinners brings you praise. Those who live through your anger gather to worship you.

Surely the wrath of man shall praise you; the remnant of wrath you will put on like a belt.

Even human wrath will praise you; you will clothe yourself with the wrath that remains.

For the wrath of mankind shall praise You; You will encircle Yourself with a remnant of wrath.

Surely the wrath of man shall praise You; With the remainder of wrath You shall gird Yourself.

Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: The residue of wrath shalt thou gird upon thee.

Nebuchadnezzar was so furious with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego that his face became distorted with rage. He commanded that the furnace be heated seven times hotter than usual.Then he ordered some of the strongest men of his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace.

For the Scriptures say that God told Pharaoh,“ I have appointed you for the very purpose of displaying my power in you and to spread my fame throughout the earth.”

Judah said to his brothers,“ What will we gain by killing our brother? We’d have to cover up the crime.Instead of hurting him, let’s sell him to those Ishmaelite traders. After all, he is our brother— our own flesh and blood!” And his brothers agreed.So when the Ishmaelites, who were Midianite traders, came by, Joseph’s brothers pulled him out of the cistern and sold him to them for twenty pieces of silver. And the traders took him to Egypt.

“ The enemy boasted,‘ I will chase them and catch up with them. I will plunder them and consume them. I will flash my sword; my powerful hand will destroy them.’But you blew with your breath, and the sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters.“ Who is like you among the gods, O Lord— glorious in holiness, awesome in splendor, performing great wonders?

You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.

The nations are in chaos, and their kingdoms crumble! God’s voice thunders, and the earth melts!

When Herod saw how much this pleased the Jewish people, he also arrested Peter.( This took place during the Passover celebration.)Then he imprisoned him, placing him under the guard of four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring Peter out for public trial after the Passover.But while Peter was in prison, the church prayed very earnestly for him.The night before Peter was to be placed on trial, he was asleep, fastened with two chains between two soldiers. Others stood guard at the prison gate.Suddenly, there was a bright light in the cell, and an angel of the Lord stood before Peter. The angel struck him on the side to awaken him and said,“ Quick! Get up!” And the chains fell off his wrists.Then the angel told him,“ Get dressed and put on your sandals.” And he did.“ Now put on your coat and follow me,” the angel ordered.So Peter left the cell, following the angel. But all the time he thought it was a vision. He didn’t realize it was actually happening.They passed the first and second guard posts and came to the iron gate leading to the city, and this opened for them all by itself. So they passed through and started walking down the street, and then the angel suddenly left him.Peter finally came to his senses.“ It’s really true!” he said.“ The Lord has sent his angel and saved me from Herod and from what the Jewish leaders had planned to do to me!”When he realized this, he went to the home of Mary, the mother of John Mark, where many were gathered for prayer.He knocked at the door in the gate, and a servant girl named Rhoda came to open it.When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed that, instead of opening the door, she ran back inside and told everyone,“ Peter is standing at the door!”“ You’re out of your mind!” they said. When she insisted, they decided,“ It must be his angel.”Meanwhile, Peter continued knocking. When they finally opened the door and saw him, they were amazed.He motioned for them to quiet down and told them how the Lord had led him out of prison.“ Tell James and the other brothers what happened,” he said. And then he went to another place.At dawn there was a great commotion among the soldiers about what had happened to Peter.Herod Agrippa ordered a thorough search for him. When he couldn’t be found, Herod interrogated the guards and sentenced them to death. Afterward Herod left Judea to stay in Caesarea for a while.

But I have spared you for a purpose— to show you my power and to spread my fame throughout the earth.But you still lord it over my people and refuse to let them go.

I know now that the Lord is greater than all other gods, because he rescued his people from the oppression of the proud Egyptians.”

After the wise men were gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream.“ Get up! Flee to Egypt with the child and his mother,” the angel said.“ Stay there until I tell you to return, because Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”That night Joseph left for Egypt with the child and Mary, his mother,and they stayed there until Herod’s death. This fulfilled what the Lord had spoken through the prophet:“ I called my Son out of Egypt.”Herod was furious when he realized that the wise men had outwitted him. He sent soldiers to kill all the boys in and around Bethlehem who were two years old and under, based on the wise men’s report of the star’s first appearance.

When Joseph’s brothers saw him coming, they recognized him in the distance. As he approached, they made plans to kill him.“ Here comes the dreamer!” they said.“ Come on, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns. We can tell our father,‘ A wild animal has eaten him.’ Then we’ll see what becomes of his dreams!”

You quieted the raging oceans with their pounding waves and silenced the shouting of the nations.

In fact, unless that time of calamity is shortened, not a single person will survive. But it will be shortened for the sake of God’s chosen ones.

The nations were filled with wrath, but now the time of your wrath has come. It is time to judge the dead and reward your servants the prophets, as well as your holy people, and all who fear your name, from the least to the greatest. It is time to destroy all who have caused destruction on the earth.”

The kings of the earth prepared for battle; the rulers gathered together against the Lord and against his Messiah.’“ In fact, this has happened here in this very city! For Herod Antipas, Pontius Pilate the governor, the Gentiles, and the people of Israel were all united against Jesus, your holy servant, whom you anointed.But everything they did was determined beforehand according to your will.

Then you set a firm boundary for the seas, so they would never again cover the earth.
