Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters.

Save me from the trouble I’m in. It’s like slippery mud, so don’t let me sink in it. Save me from those who hate me. Save me from the deep water I’m in.

Deliver me from sinking in the mire; let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters.

Save me, God, For the waters have threatened my life.I have sunk in deep mud, and there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and a flood overflows me.

The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you put to death by hanging Him on a cross.He is the one whom God exalted to His right hand as a Prince and a Savior, to grant repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

Deep calls to deep at the sound of Your waterfalls; All Your breakers and Your waves have passed over me.

And He* said to them,“ My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch.”And He went a little beyond them, and fell to the ground and began praying that if it were possible, the hour might pass Him by.And He was saying,“ Abba! Father! All things are possible for You; remove this cup from Me; yet not what I will, but what You will.”And He* came and* found them sleeping, and* said to Peter,“ Simon, are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one hour?Keep watching and praying, so that you will not come into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”And again He went away and prayed, saying the same words.And again He came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy; and they did not know what to say in reply to Him.And He* came the third time, and* said to them,“ Are you still sleeping and resting? That is enough. The hour has come; behold, the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.Get up, let’s go; behold, the one who is betraying Me is near!”

So they took Jeremiah and threw him into the cistern of Malchijah the king’s son, which was in the courtyard of the guardhouse; and they let Jeremiah down with ropes. Now in the cistern there was no water but only mud, and Jeremiah sank into the mud.But Ebed melech the Ethiopian, a eunuch, while he was in the king’s palace, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the cistern. Now the king was sitting at the Gate of Benjamin;and Ebed melech went out from the king’s palace and spoke to the king, saying,“ My lord the king, these men have acted wickedly in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet whom they have thrown into the cistern; and he will die right where he is because of the famine, for there is no more bread in the city.”Then the king commanded Ebed melech the Ethiopian, saying,“ Take thirty men from here under your authority and bring Jeremiah the prophet up from the cistern before he dies.”So Ebed melech took the men under his authority and went into the king’s palace to a place beneath the storeroom, and took from there worn out clothes and worn out rags, and let them down by ropes into the cistern to Jeremiah.Then Ebed melech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah,“ Now put these worn out clothes and rags under your armpits under the ropes”; and Jeremiah did so.So they pulled Jeremiah out with the ropes and lifted him out of the cistern, and Jeremiah stayed in the courtyard of the guardhouse.

They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, And have fought against me without cause.

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God?

Do not let those who are wrongfully my enemies rejoice over me; Nor let those who hate me for no reason wink maliciously.

Then the waters would have flooded over us, The stream would have swept over our souls;Then the raging waters would have swept over our souls.”

I waited patiently for the Lord; And He reached down to me and heard my cry.He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the mud; And He set my feet on a rock, making my footsteps firm.He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear And will trust in the Lord.

May the flood of water not overflow me Nor the deep swallow me up, Nor the pit close its mouth on me.

I called on Your name, Lord, Out of the lowest pit.

But You, God, the Lord, deal kindly with me for the sake of Your name; Because Your mercy is good, rescue me;

But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying,‘ We do not want this man to reign over us.’

Look at my misery and my trouble, And forgive all my sins.Look at my enemies, for they are many, And they hate me with violent hatred.

But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them in my presence.’ ”

At the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice,“ Eloi, Eloi, lema sabaktanei?” which is translated,“ My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
