Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters.

Save me from the trouble I’m in. It’s like slippery mud, so don’t let me sink in it. Save me from those who hate me. Save me from the deep water I’m in.

Deep calls to deep at the roar of your waterfalls; all your breakers and your waves have gone over me.

And he said to them,“ My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and watch.”And going a little farther, he fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.And he said,“ Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter,“ Simon, are you asleep? Could you not watch one hour?Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”And again he went away and prayed, saying the same words.And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy, and they did not know what to answer him.And he came the third time and said to them,“ Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? It is enough; the hour has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.”

So they took Jeremiah and cast him into the cistern of Malchiah, the king’s son, which was in the court of the guard, letting Jeremiah down by ropes. And there was no water in the cistern, but only mud, and Jeremiah sank in the mud.When Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, a eunuch who was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah into the cistern— the king was sitting in the Benjamin Gate—Ebed-melech went from the king’s house and said to the king,“ My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they did to Jeremiah the prophet by casting him into the cistern, and he will die there of hunger, for there is no bread left in the city.”Then the king commanded Ebed-melech the Ethiopian,“ Take thirty men with you from here, and lift Jeremiah the prophet out of the cistern before he dies.”So Ebed-melech took the men with him and went to the house of the king, to a wardrobe in the storehouse, and took from there old rags and worn-out clothes, which he let down to Jeremiah in the cistern by ropes.Then Ebed-melech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah,“ Put the rags and clothes between your armpits and the ropes.” Jeremiah did so.Then they drew Jeremiah up with ropes and lifted him out of the cistern. And Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.

They encircle me with words of hate, and attack me without cause.

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

Let not those rejoice over me who are wrongfully my foes, and let not those wink the eye who hate me without cause.

then the flood would have swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us;then over us would have gone the raging waters.

I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry.He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.

Let not the flood sweep over me, or the deep swallow me up, or the pit close its mouth over me.

“ I called on your name, O Lord, from the depths of the pit;

But you, O God my Lord, deal on my behalf for your name’s sake; because your steadfast love is good, deliver me!

But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying,‘ We do not want this man to reign over us.’

Consider my affliction and my trouble, and forgive all my sins.Consider how many are my foes, and with what violent hatred they hate me.

But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before me.’”

And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice,“ Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means,“ My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
