A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.

God is in his holy temple. He is a father to children whose fathers have died. He takes care of women whose husbands have died.

Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation.

Father to the fatherless, defender of widows— this is God, whose dwelling is holy.

God in his holy dwelling is a father of the fatherless and a champion of widows.

A father of the fatherless and a judge for the widows, Is God in His holy dwelling.

who justly treats the orphan and widow, and who loves resident foreigners, giving them food and clothing.

You have taken notice, for you always see one who inflicts pain and suffering. The unfortunate victim entrusts his cause to you; you deliver the fatherless.

Leave your orphans behind and I will keep them alive. Your widows too can depend on me.”

The LORD protects those residing outside their native land; he lifts up the fatherless and the widow, but he opposes the wicked.

Defend the cause of the poor and the fatherless! Vindicate the oppressed and suffering!Rescue the poor and needy! Deliver them from the power of the wicked!

Your officials are rebels, they associate with thieves. All of them love bribery, and look for payoffs. They do not take up the cause of the orphan, or defend the rights of the widow.

That is how they have grown fat and sleek. There is no limit to the evil things they do. They do not plead the cause of the fatherless in such a way as to win it. They do not defend the rights of the poor.

O LORD, I have built a lofty temple for you, a place where you can live permanently.”

This is what the LORD says:“ The heavens are my throne and the earth is my footstool. Where then is the house you will build for me? Where is the place where I will rest?

For this is what the high and exalted one says, the one who rules forever, whose name is holy:“ I dwell in an exalted and holy place, but also with the discouraged and humiliated, in order to cheer up the humiliated and to encourage the discouraged.

He said,“ In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected people.There was also a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying,‘ Give me justice against my adversary.’For a while he refused, but later on he said to himself,‘ Though I neither fear God nor have regard for people,yet because this widow keeps on bothering me, I will give her justice, or in the end she will wear me out by her unending pleas.’”And the Lord said,“ Listen to what the unrighteous judge says!Won’t God give justice to his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he delay long to help them?

He will defend the oppressed among the people; he will deliver the children of the poor and crush the oppressor.

You defend the fatherless and oppressed, so that mere mortals may no longer terrorize them.

Then he will judge your people fairly, and your oppressed ones equitably.

The priests and Levites got up and pronounced blessings on the people. The LORD responded favorably to them as their prayers reached his holy dwelling place in heaven.

From the place where he lives he looks carefully at all the earth’s inhabitants.

Assyria cannot save us; we will not ride warhorses. We will never again say,‘ Our gods’ to what our own hands have made. For only you will show compassion to Orphan Israel!”

If I have refused to give the poor what they desired, or caused the eyes of the widow to fail,If I ate my morsel of bread myself, and did not share any of it with orphans–

Look down from your holy dwelling place in heaven and bless your people Israel and the land you have given us, just as you promised our ancestors– a land flowing with milk and honey.”

Therefore, be imitators of God as dearly loved children

Yet the Most High does not live in houses made by human hands, as the prophet says,‘ Heaven is my throne, and earth is the footstool for my feet. What kind of house will you build for me, says the Lord, or what is my resting place?

for I rescued the poor who cried out for help, and the orphan who had no one to assist him;the blessing of the dying man descended on me, and I made the widow’s heart rejoice;
