These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng.

When I remember what has happened, I tell God all my troubles. I remember how I used to walk to the house of God. The Mighty One guarded my steps. We shouted with joy and praised God as we went along with the joyful crowd.

These things I remember, as I pour out my soul: how I would go with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God with glad shouts and songs of praise, a multitude keeping festival.

My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration!

Ye shall have a song, as in the night[ when] a holy solemnity is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe to come into the mountain of the LORD, to the mighty One of Israel.

Trust in him at all times;[ ye] people, pour out your heart before him: God[ is] a refuge for us. Selah.

And all the people said, Amen, and praised the LORD.So he left there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD Asaph and his brethren, to minister before the ark continually, as every day’s work required:And Obededom with their brethren, threescore and eight; Obededom also the son of Jeduthun and Hosah[ to be] porters:And Zadok the priest, and his brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of the LORD in the high place that[ was] at Gibeon,To offer burnt offerings unto the LORD upon the altar of the burnt offering continually morning and evening, and[ to do] according to all that is written in the law of the LORD, which he commanded Israel;And with them Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest that were chosen, who were expressed by name, to give thanks to the LORD, because his mercy[ endureth] for ever;And with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those that should make a sound, and with musical instruments of God. And the sons of Jeduthun[ were] porters.And all the people departed every man to his house: and David returned to bless his house.

And thou shalt rejoice in thy feast, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite, the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that[ are] within thy gates.Seven days shalt thou keep a solemn feast unto the LORD thy God in the place which the LORD shall choose: because the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thine increase, and in all the works of thine hands, therefore thou shalt surely rejoice.

And on the three and twentieth day of the seventh month he sent the people away into their tents, glad and merry in heart for the goodness that the LORD had shewed unto David, and to Solomon, and to Israel his people.

Oh that I were as[ in] months past, as[ in] the days[ when] God preserved me;When his candle shined upon my head,[ and when] by his light I walked[ through] darkness;As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God[ was] upon my tabernacle;When the Almighty[ was] yet with me,[ when] my children[ were] about me;When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;When I went out to the gate through the city,[ when] I prepared my seat in the street!The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose,[ and] stood up.The princes refrained talking, and laid[ their] hand on their mouth.The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.When the ear heard[ me], then it blessed me; and when the eye saw[ me], it gave witness to me:Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and[ him that had] none to help him.The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment[ was] as a robe and a diadem.I was eyes to the blind, and feet[ was] I to the lame.I[ was] a father to the poor: and the cause[ which] I knew not I searched out.And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply[ my] days as the sand.My root[ was] spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.My glory[ was] fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.Unto me[ men] gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide[ as] for the latter rain.[ If] I laughed on them, they believed[ it] not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one[ that] comforteth the mourners.But now[ they that are] younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.Yea, whereto[ might] the strength of their hands[ profit] me, in whom old age was perished?For want and famine[ they were] solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste.Who cut up mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots[ for] their meat.They were driven forth from among[ men],( they cried after them as[ after] a thief;)To dwell in the clifts of the valleys,[ in] caves of the earth, and[ in] the rocks.Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.[ They were] children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth.And now am I their song, yea, I am their byword.They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.Because he hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the bridle before me.Upon[ my] right[ hand] rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.They mar my path, they set forward my calamity, they have no helper.They came[ upon me] as a wide breaking in[ of waters]: in the desolation they rolled themselves[ upon me].Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the wind: and my welfare passeth away as a cloud.And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.My bones are pierced in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest.By the great force[ of my disease] is my garment changed: it bindeth me about as the collar of my coat.He hath cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes.I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me: I stand up, and thou regardest me[ not].Thou art become cruel to me: with thy strong hand thou opposest thyself against me.Thou liftest me up to the wind; thou causest me to ride[ upon it], and dissolvest my substance.For I know[ that] thou wilt bring me[ to] death, and[ to] the house appointed for all living.Howbeit he will not stretch out[ his] hand to the grave, though they cry in his destruction.Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? was[ not] my soul grieved for the poor?When I looked for good, then evil came[ unto me]: and when I waited for light, there came darkness.My bowels boiled, and rested not: the days of affliction prevented me.I went mourning without the sun: I stood up,[ and] I cried in the congregation.I am a brother to dragons, and a companion to owls.My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.My harp also is[ turned] to mourning, and my organ into the voice of them that weep.

Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.

How is the gold become dim![ how] is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.

I went out full, and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why[ then] call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me?

Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.

And thou shalt rejoice before the LORD thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite that[ is] within thy gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that[ are] among you, in the place which the LORD thy God hath chosen to place his name there.

And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their shoulders with the staves thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word of the LORD.And David spake to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brethren[ to be] the singers with instruments of musick, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding, by lifting up the voice with joy.So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brethren, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari their brethren, Ethan the son of Kushaiah;And with them their brethren of the second[ degree], Zechariah, Ben, and Jaaziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, Eliab, and Benaiah, and Maaseiah, and Mattithiah, and Elipheleh, and Mikneiah, and Obededom, and Jeiel, the porters.So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan,[ were appointed] to sound with cymbals of brass;And Zechariah, and Aziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, and Eliab, and Maaseiah, and Benaiah, with psalteries on Alamoth;And Mattithiah, and Elipheleh, and Mikneiah, and Obededom, and Jeiel, and Azaziah, with harps on the Sheminith to excel.And Chenaniah, chief of the Levites,[ was] for song: he instructed about the song, because he[ was] skilful.And Berechiah and Elkanah[ were] doorkeepers for the ark.And Shebaniah, and Jehoshaphat, and Nethaneel, and Amasai, and Zechariah, and Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, did blow with the trumpets before the ark of God: and Obededom and Jehiah[ were] doorkeepers for the ark.So David, and the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands, went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the house of Obededom with joy.And it came to pass, when God helped the Levites that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, that they offered seven bullocks and seven rams.And David[ was] clothed with a robe of fine linen, and all the Levites that bare the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the master of the song with the singers: David also[ had] upon him an ephod of linen.Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the cornet, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, making a noise with psalteries and harps.

Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children, that faint for hunger in the top of every street.

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving,[ and] into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him,[ and] bless his name.

We took sweet counsel together,[ and] walked unto the house of God in company.

But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

And the whole assembly took counsel to keep other seven days: and they kept[ other] seven days with gladness.For Hezekiah king of Judah did give to the congregation a thousand bullocks and seven thousand sheep; and the princes gave to the congregation a thousand bullocks and ten thousand sheep: and a great number of priests sanctified themselves.And all the congregation of Judah, with the priests and the Levites, and all the congregation that came out of Israel, and the strangers that came out of the land of Israel, and that dwelt in Judah, rejoiced.So there was great joy in Jerusalem: for since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel[ there was] not the like in Jerusalem.
