I went about mourning as if for my friend or brother; I was bowed down with grief, like one mourning for a mother.

I will say to God, my rock,“ Why have you forgotten me? Why must I go about in sorrow because of the enemy’s oppression?”

Why, my soul, are you so dejected? Why are you in such turmoil? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise him, my Savior and my God.

For you are the God of my refuge. Why have you rejected me? Why must I go about in sorrow because of the enemy’s oppression?

I am weary from my groaning; with my tears I dampen my bed and drench my couch every night.

My eyes are worn out from crying. LORD, I cry out to you all day long; I spread out my hands to you.

The LORD helps all who fall; he raises up all who are oppressed.

Indeed, my life is consumed with grief and my years with groaning; my strength has failed because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away.

I chirp like a swallow or a crane; I moan like a dove. My eyes grow weak looking upward. Lord, I am oppressed; support me.

They prepared a net for my steps; I was despondent. They dug a pit ahead of me, but they fell into it! Selah
