Evil men borrow, but do not repay their debt, but the godly show compassion and are generous.

The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously;

Sinful people borrow and don’t pay back. But those who are godly give freely to others.

The wicked borrows but does not pay back, but the righteous is generous and gives;

The wicked borrow and never repay, but the godly are generous givers.

The wicked person borrows and does not repay, but the righteous one is gracious and giving.

The wicked borrows and does not pay back, But the righteous is gracious and gives.

The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again; But the righteous dealeth graciously, and giveth.

The wicked borrow, and don’t pay back, but the righteous give generously.

It goes well for the one who generously lends money, and conducts his business honestly.

And do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for God is pleased with such sacrifices.

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that although he was rich, he became poor for your sakes, so that you by his poverty could become rich.

The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

He generously gives to the needy; his integrity endures. He will be vindicated and honored.

The LORD will open for you his good treasure house, the heavens, to give you rain for the land in its season and to bless all you do; you will lend to many nations but you will not borrow from any.

For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love you have demonstrated for his name, in having served and continuing to serve the saints.

Now a wife of one of the prophets appealed to Elisha for help, saying,“ Your servant, my husband is dead. You know that your servant was a loyal follower of the LORD. Now the creditor is coming to take away my two boys to be his servants.”Elisha said to her,“ What can I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” She answered,“ Your servant has nothing in the house except a small jar of olive oil.”He said,“ Go and ask all your neighbors for empty containers. Get as many as you can.Go and close the door behind you and your sons. Pour the olive oil into all the containers; set aside each one when you have filled it.”So she left him and closed the door behind her and her sons. As they were bringing the containers to her, she was pouring the olive oil.

The foreigners who reside among you will become higher and higher over you and you will become lower and lower.They will lend to you but you will not lend to them; they will become the head and you will become the tail!

By all these things, I have shown you that by working in this way we must help the weak, and remember the words of the Lord Jesus that he himself said,‘ It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

An honorable man makes honorable plans; his honorable character gives him security.

I want you to share your food with the hungry and to provide shelter for homeless, oppressed people. When you see someone naked, clothe him! Don’t turn your back on your own flesh and blood!Then your light will shine like the sunrise; your restoration will quickly arrive; your godly behavior will go before you, and the LORD’s splendor will be your rear guard.Then you will call out, and the LORD will respond; you will cry out, and he will reply,‘ Here I am.’ You must remove the burdensome yoke from among you and stop pointing fingers and speaking sinfully.You must actively help the hungry and feed the oppressed. Then your light will dispel the darkness, and your darkness will be transformed into noonday.

If I have refused to give the poor what they desired, or caused the eyes of the widow to fail,If I ate my morsel of bread myself, and did not share any of it with orphans–but from my youth I raised the orphan like a father, and from my mother’s womb I guided the widow!If I have seen anyone about to perish for lack of clothing, or a poor man without a coat,whose heart did not bless me as he warmed himself with the fleece of my sheep,

So the disciples, each in accordance with his financial ability, decided to send relief to the brothers living in Judea.

My point is this: The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously.Each one of you should give just as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, because God loves a cheerful giver.And God is able to make all grace overflow to you so that because you have enough of everything in every way at all times, you will overflow in every good work.Just as it is written,“ He has scattered widely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness remains forever.”Now God who provides seed for the sower and bread for food will provide and multiply your supply of seed and will cause the harvest of your righteousness to grow.You will be enriched in every way so that you may be generous on every occasion, which is producing through us thanksgiving to God,because the service of this ministry is not only providing for the needs of the saints but is also overflowing with many thanks to God.Through the evidence of this service they will glorify God because of your obedience to your confession in the gospel of Christ and the generosity of your sharing with them and with everyone.And in their prayers on your behalf they long for you because of the extraordinary grace God has shown to you.Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

Then there was a great outcry from the people and their wives against their fellow Jews.There were those who said,“ With our sons and daughters, we are many. We must obtain grain in order to eat and stay alive.”There were others who said,“ We are putting up our fields, our vineyards, and our houses as collateral in order to obtain grain during the famine.”Then there were those who said,“ We have borrowed money to pay our taxes to the king on our fields and our vineyards.And now, though we share the same flesh and blood as our fellow countrymen, and our children are just like their children, still we have found it necessary to subject our sons and daughters to slavery. Some of our daughters have been subjected to slavery, while we are powerless to help, since our fields and vineyards now belong to other people.”

Give to everyone who asks you, and do not ask for your possessions back from the person who takes them away.

Be careful lest you entertain the wicked thought that the seventh year, the year of cancellation of debts, has almost arrived, and your attitude be wrong toward your impoverished fellow Israelite and you do not lend him anything; he will cry out to the LORD against you and you will be regarded as having sinned.You must by all means lend to him and not be upset by doing it, for because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you attempt.There will never cease to be some poor people in the land; therefore, I am commanding you to make sure you open your hand to your fellow Israelites who are needy and poor in your land.
