I am scorned by all my enemies and despised by my neighbors— even my friends are afraid to come near me. When they see me on the street, they run the other way.

我受一切仇敵之凌辱、受鄰舍之凌辱更甚、認識我者、見我皆驚、在街市見我者、皆離我而遁、

愁煎生意枯。悲嘆歲月新。精力日以衰。罪多氣消沈。

Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors and an object of dread to my closest friends— those who see me on the street flee from me.

My neighbors make fun of me because I have so many enemies. My closest friends are afraid of me. People who see me on the street run away from me.

Because of all my adversaries I have become a reproach, especially to my neighbors, and an object of dread to my acquaintances; those who see me in the street flee from me.

I am ridiculed by all my adversaries and even by my neighbors. I am dreaded by my acquaintances; those who see me in the street run from me.

You have driven my friends away by making me repulsive to them. I am in a trap with no way of escape.

You have taken away my companions and loved ones. Darkness is my closest friend.

“ My relatives stay far away, and my friends have turned against me.My family is gone, and my close friends have forgotten me.

Their own tongues will ruin them, and all who see them will shake their heads in scorn.

You know of my shame, scorn, and disgrace. You see all that my enemies are doing.Their insults have broken my heart, and I am in despair. If only one person would show some pity; if only one would turn and comfort me.

But this is all happening to fulfill the words of the prophets as recorded in the Scriptures.” At that point, all the disciples deserted him and fled.

The Lord, the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel, says to the one who is despised and rejected by the nations, to the one who is the servant of rulers:“ Kings will stand at attention when you pass by. Princes will also bow low because of the Lord, the faithful one, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”

“ He has some fatal disease,” they say.“ He will never get out of that bed!”Even my best friend, the one I trusted completely, the one who shared my food, has turned against me.

For the son despises his father. The daughter defies her mother. The daughter in law defies her mother in law. Your enemies are right in your own household!

“ A brother will betray his brother to death, a father will betray his own child, and children will rebel against their parents and cause them to be killed.And all nations will hate you because you are my followers. But everyone who endures to the end will be saved.

But I am a worm and not a man. I am scorned and despised by all!

Then all his disciples deserted him and ran away.

For even Christ didn’t live to please himself. As the Scriptures say,“ The insults of those who insult you, O God, have fallen on me.”

You, too, have given no help. You have seen my calamity, and you are afraid.But why? Have I ever asked you for a gift? Have I begged for anything of yours for myself?Have I asked you to rescue me from my enemies, or to save me from ruthless people?

Some were jeered at, and their backs were cut open with whips. Others were chained in prisons.

If you are insulted because you bear the name of Christ, you will be blessed, for the glorious Spirit of God rests upon you.

The first time I was brought before the judge, no one came with me. Everyone abandoned me. May it not be counted against them.

He was despised and rejected— a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins!But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.

Even your brothers, members of your own family, have turned against you. They plot and raise complaints against you. Do not trust them, no matter how pleasantly they speak.

The people passing by shouted abuse, shaking their heads in mockery.“ Look at you now!” they yelled at him.“ You said you were going to destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days. Well then, if you are the Son of God, save yourself and come down from the cross!”The leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the elders also mocked Jesus.“ He saved others,” they scoffed,“ but he can’t save himself! So he is the King of Israel, is he? Let him come down from the cross right now, and we will believe in him!He trusted God, so let God rescue him now if he wants him! For he said,‘ I am the Son of God.’”Even the revolutionaries who were crucified with him ridiculed him in the same way.

Consider, Lord, how your servants are disgraced! I carry in my heart the insults of so many people.Your enemies have mocked me, O Lord; they mock your anointed king wherever he goes.

So let us go out to him, outside the camp, and bear the disgrace he bore.

Peter swore,“ A curse on me if I’m lying— I don’t know the man!” And immediately the rooster crowed.
