He will give justice to the poor and make fair decisions for the exploited. The earth will shake at the force of his word, and one breath from his mouth will destroy the wicked.

The Lord stands at your right hand to protect you. He will strike down many kings when his anger erupts.He will punish the nations and fill their lands with corpses; he will shatter heads over the whole earth.

He loosed on them his fierce anger— all his fury, rage, and hostility. He dispatched against them a band of destroying angels.He turned his anger against them; he did not spare the Egyptians’ lives but ravaged them with the plague.

You will throw them in a flaming furnace when you appear. The Lord will consume them in his anger; fire will devour them.

From his mouth came a sharp sword to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will release the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty, like juice flowing from a winepress.

And as for these enemies of mine who didn’t want me to be their king— bring them in and execute them right here in front of me.’”

But I am very angry with the other nations that are now enjoying peace and security. I was only a little angry with my people, but the nations inflicted harm on them far beyond my intentions.

What is all the commotion in the city? What is that terrible noise from the Temple? It is the voice of the Lord taking vengeance against his enemies.

He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp two edged sword came from his mouth. And his face was like the sun in all its brilliance.

Before long your enemies will build ramparts against your walls and encircle you and close in on you from every side.They will crush you into the ground, and your children with you. Your enemies will not leave a single stone in place, because you did not recognize it when God visited you.”

Snakes! Sons of vipers! How will you escape the judgment of hell?“ Therefore, I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers of religious law. But you will kill some by crucifixion, and you will flog others with whips in your synagogues, chasing them from city to city.As a result, you will be held responsible for the murder of all godly people of all time— from the murder of righteous Abel to the murder of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you killed in the Temple between the sanctuary and the altar.I tell you the truth, this judgment will fall on this very generation.

But God says to the wicked:“ Why bother reciting my decrees and pretending to obey my covenant?For you refuse my discipline and treat my words like trash.When you see thieves, you approve of them, and you spend your time with adulterers.Your mouth is filled with wickedness, and your tongue is full of lies.You sit around and slander your brother— your own mother’s son.While you did all this, I remained silent, and you thought I didn’t care. But now I will rebuke you, listing all my charges against you.Repent, all of you who forget me, or I will tear you apart, and no one will help you.
