To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless,

Lord, to those who are faithful you show that you are faithful. To those who are without blame you show that you are without blame.

With the merciful you show yourself merciful; with the blameless man you show yourself blameless;

With the faithful you prove yourself faithful, with the blameless you prove yourself blameless,

With the faithful You show Yourself faithful; With the blameless You prove Yourself blameless;

With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful; With a blameless man You will show Yourself blameless;

With the merciful thou wilt show thyself merciful; With the perfect man thou wilt show thyself perfect;

With the faithful You prove Yourself faithful; with the blameless man You prove Yourself blameless;

With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful; with an upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright;

You prove to be loyal to one who is faithful; you prove to be trustworthy to one who is innocent.

With the merciful you will show yourself merciful. With the perfect man, you will show yourself perfect.

God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

Shouldn’t you have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?’Then the angry king sent the man to prison to be tortured until he had paid his entire debt.“ That’s what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters from your heart.”

Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor! The Lord rescues them when they are in trouble.The Lord protects them and keeps them alive. He gives them prosperity in the land and rescues them from their enemies.The Lord nurses them when they are sick and restores them to health.“ O Lord,” I prayed,“ have mercy on me. Heal me, for I have sinned against you.”

Light shines in the darkness for the godly. They are generous, compassionate, and righteous.Good comes to those who lend money generously and conduct their business fairly.Such people will not be overcome by evil. Those who are righteous will be long remembered.

“ Yet you say,‘ The Lord isn’t doing what’s right!’ Listen to me, O people of Israel. Am I the one not doing what’s right, or is it you?When righteous people turn from their righteous behavior and start doing sinful things, they will die for it. Yes, they will die because of their sinful deeds.And if wicked people turn from their wickedness, obey the law, and do what is just and right, they will save their lives.They will live because they thought it over and decided to turn from their sins. Such people will not die.And yet the people of Israel keep saying,‘ The Lord isn’t doing what’s right!’ O people of Israel, it is you who are not doing what’s right, not I.“ Therefore, I will judge each of you, O people of Israel, according to your actions, says the Sovereign Lord. Repent, and turn from your sins. Don’t let them destroy you!

Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time. But no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come.For those who follow godly paths will rest in peace when they die.

then hear from heaven and judge between your servants— the accuser and the accused. Punish the guilty as they deserve. Acquit the innocent because of their innocence.

“ Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.“ Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven.Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full— pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”

unfailing love, O Lord, is yours. Surely you repay all people according to what they have done.

But for those who are righteous, the way is not steep and rough. You are a God who does what is right, and you smooth out the path ahead of them.

They refused to obey and did not remember the miracles you had done for them. Instead, they became stubborn and appointed a leader to take them back to their slavery in Egypt. But you are a God of forgiveness, gracious and merciful, slow to become angry, and rich in unfailing love. You did not abandon them,

Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.“ Then your salvation will come like the dawn, and your wounds will quickly heal. Your godliness will lead you forward, and the glory of the Lord will protect you from behind.

Are we saying, then, that God was unfair? Of course not!
