Then Jerusalem will be called the Faithful City; the mountain of the LORD of Armies will be called the Holy Mountain.”The LORD of Armies says this:“ Old men and women will again sit along the streets of Jerusalem, each with a staff in hand because of advanced age.The streets of the city will be filled with boys and girls playing in them.”

If I go out to the field, look— those slain by the sword! If I enter the city, look— those ill from famine! For both prophet and priest travel to a land they do not know.

Israel chose new gods, then there was war in the city gates. Not a shield or spear was seen among forty thousand in Israel.

The roads to Zion mourn, for no one comes to the appointed festivals. All her gates are deserted; her priests groan, her young women grieve, and she herself is bitter.Her adversaries have become her masters; her enemies are at ease, for the LORD has made her suffer because of her many transgressions. Her children have gone away as captives before the adversary.All the splendor has vanished from Daughter Zion. Her leaders are like stags that find no pasture; they stumble away exhausted before the hunter.

But if you will not listen, my innermost being will weep in secret because of your pride. My eyes will overflow with tears, for the LORD’s flock has been taken captive.Say to the king and the queen mother: Take a humble seat, for your glorious crowns have fallen from your heads.The cities of the Negev are under siege; no one can help them. All of Judah has been taken into exile, taken completely into exile.

Judah mourns; her city gates languish. Her people are on the ground in mourning; Jerusalem’s cry rises up.

When the men of Israel on the other side of the valley and on the other side of the Jordan saw that Israel’s men had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned the cities and fled. So the Philistines came and settled in them.

Whenever the Israelites planted crops, the Midianites, Amalekites, and the people of the east came and attacked them.
