How long will my enemy have the upper hand?Turn and answer me, O Lord my God! For troubles surround me— too many to count! My sins pile up so high I can’t see my way out. They outnumber the hairs on my head. I have lost all courage.Please, Lord, rescue me! Come quickly, Lord, and help me.

As for me, since I am poor and needy, let the Lord keep me in his thoughts. You are my helper and my savior. O my God, do not delay.

I am exhausted from crying for help; my throat is parched. My eyes are swollen with weeping, waiting for my God to help me.

Are your wonderful deeds of any use to the dead? Do the dead rise up and praise you? InterludeCan those in the grave declare your unfailing love? Can they proclaim your faithfulness in the place of destruction?

O God, don’t stay away. My God, please hurry to help me.

For I will not fight against you forever; I will not always be angry. If I were, all people would pass away— all the souls I have made.

For he has not ignored or belittled the suffering of the needy. He has not turned his back on them, but has listened to their cries for help.

I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the Lord. With my whole being, body and soul, I will shout joyfully to the living God.
