Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.

If the Lord doesn’t build a house, the work of the builders is useless. If the Lord doesn’t watch over a city, it’s useless for those on guard duty to stand watch over it.

For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building.According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.

There is no wisdom or understanding Or counsel against the Lord.The horse is prepared for the day of battle, But deliverance is of the Lord.

No king is saved by the multitude of an army; A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.A horse is a vain hope for safety; Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength.Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who hope in His mercy,

He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber.Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep.The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand.

Set up the standard on the walls of Babylon; Make the guard strong, Set up the watchmen, Prepare the ambushes. For the Lord has both devised and done What He spoke against the inhabitants of Babylon.

I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; They shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent,

“ If it had not been the Lord who was on our side,” Let Israel now say—

Consider now, for the Lord has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary; be strong, and do it.”

And David said to his son Solomon,“ Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God— my God— will be with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord.

And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.

And give my son Solomon a loyal heart to keep Your commandments and Your testimonies and Your statutes, to do all these things, and to build the temple for which I have made provision.”

He shall build a house for My name, and he shall be My son, and I will be his Father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’Now, my son, may the Lord be with you; and may you prosper, and build the house of the Lord your God, as He has said to you.

I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help?

In my distress I cried to the Lord, And He heard me.

When the Lord brought back the captivity of Zion, We were like those who dream.

Those who trust in the Lord Are like Mount Zion, Which cannot be moved, but abides forever.

I returned and saw under the sun that— The race is not to the swift, Nor the battle to the strong, Nor bread to the wise, Nor riches to men of understanding, Nor favor to men of skill; But time and chance happen to them all.

I am afraid for you, lest I have labored for you in vain.

Unto You I lift up my eyes, O You who dwell in the heavens.

And He built His sanctuary like the heights, Like the earth which He has established forever.

“ Son of man, speak to the children of your people, and say to them:‘ When I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from their territory and make him their watchman,when he sees the sword coming upon the land, if he blows the trumpet and warns the people,then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be on his own head.He heard the sound of the trumpet, but did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But he who takes warning will save his life.But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.’“ So you, son of man: I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear a word from My mouth and warn them for Me.When I say to the wicked,‘ O wicked man, you shall surely die!’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand.Nevertheless if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.

The watchmen who go about the city found me; I said,“ Have you seen the one I love?”

His watchmen are blind, They are all ignorant; They are all dumb dogs, They cannot bark; Sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.

I, the Lord, keep it, I water it every moment; Lest any hurt it, I keep it night and day.

Prepare the table, Set a watchman in the tower, Eat and drink. Arise, you princes, Anoint the shield!For thus has the Lord said to me:“ Go, set a watchman, Let him declare what he sees.”And he saw a chariot with a pair of horsemen, A chariot of donkeys, and a chariot of camels, And he listened earnestly with great care.Then he cried,“ A lion, my Lord! I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime; I have sat at my post every night.And look, here comes a chariot of men with a pair of horsemen!” Then he answered and said,“ Babylon is fallen, is fallen! And all the carved images of her gods He has broken to the ground.”Oh, my threshing and the grain of my floor! That which I have heard from the Lord of hosts, The God of Israel, I have declared to you.The burden against Dumah. He calls to me out of Seir,“ Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?”The watchman said,“ The morning comes, and also the night. If you will inquire, inquire; Return! Come back!”

The watchmen who went about the city found me. They struck me, they wounded me; The keepers of the walls Took my veil away from me.

One runner will run to meet another, And one messenger to meet another, To show the king of Babylon that his city is taken on all sides;

Give the king Your judgments, O God, And Your righteousness to the king’s Son.
