Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.

If the Lord doesn’t build a house, the work of the builders is useless. If the Lord doesn’t watch over a city, it’s useless for those on guard duty to stand watch over it.

The mind of a person plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.

For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each person must be careful how he builds on it.For no one can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw,each one’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each one’s work.If anyone’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward.If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet only so as through fire.

So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth.

There is no wisdom, no understanding, And no plan against the Lord.The horse is prepared for the day of battle, But the victory belongs to the Lord.

The king is not saved by a mighty army; A warrior is not rescued by great strength.A horse is a false hope for victory; Nor does it rescue anyone by its great strength.Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who wait for His faithfulness,

He will not allow your foot to slip; He who watches over you will not slumber.Behold, He who watches over Israel Will neither slumber nor sleep.The Lord is your protector; The Lord is your shade on your right hand.

Lift up a signal flag against the walls of Babylon; Post a strong guard, Station sentries, Set up an ambush! For the Lord has both planned and performed What He spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.

On your walls, Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen; All day and all night they will never keep silent. You who profess the Lord, take no rest for yourselves;

“ Had it not been the Lord who was on our side,” Let Israel say,

Consider now, for the Lord has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary; be courageous and act.”

Then David said to his son Solomon,“ Be strong and courageous, and act; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you until all the work for the service of the house of the Lord is finished.

and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain, your faith also is in vain.

and give my son Solomon a perfect heart to keep Your commandments, Your testimonies, and Your statutes, and to do them all, and to build the temple for which I have made provision.”

He shall build a house for My name, and he shall be My son and I will be his Father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’Now, my son, the Lord be with you that you may be successful, and build the house of the Lord your God just as He has spoken concerning you.

I will raise my eyes to the mountains; From where will my help come?

When the Lord brought back the captives of Zion, We were like those who dream.

Those who trust in the Lord Are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved but remains forever.

I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift and the battle is not to the warriors, and neither is bread to the wise nor wealth to the discerning, nor favor to the skillful; for time and chance overtake them all.

I fear for you, that perhaps I have labored over you in vain.

To You I have raised my eyes, You who are enthroned in the heavens!

And He built His sanctuary like the heights, Like the earth which He has established forever.

“ Son of man, speak to the sons of your people and say to them,‘ If I bring a sword upon a land, and the people of the land take one man from among them and make him their watchman,and he sees the sword coming upon the land and blows the horn and warns the people,then someone who hears the sound of the horn but does not take warning, and a sword comes and takes him away, his blood will be on his own head.He heard the sound of the horn but did not take warning; his blood will be on himself. But had he taken warning, he would have saved his life.But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the horn and the people are not warned, and a sword comes and takes a person from them, he is taken away for his wrongdoing; but I will require his blood from the watchman’s hand.’“ Now as for you, son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for the house of Israel; so you will hear a message from My mouth and give them a warning from Me.When I say to the wicked,‘ You wicked person, you will certainly die,’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked about his way, that wicked person shall die for his wrongdoing, but I will require his blood from your hand.But if you on your part warn a wicked person to turn from his way and he does not turn from his way, he will die for his wrongdoing, but you have saved your life.

The watchmen who make the rounds in the city found me, And I said,‘ Have you seen him whom my soul loves?’

His watchmen are blind, All of them know nothing. All of them are mute dogs unable to bark, Dreamers lying down, who love to slumber;

I, the Lord, am its keeper; I water it every moment. So that no one will damage it, I guard it night and day.

They set the table, they spread out the cloth, they eat, they drink;“ Rise up, captains, oil the shields!”For this is what the Lord says to me:“ Go, station the lookout, have him report what he sees.When he sees a column of chariots, horsemen in pairs, A train of donkeys, a train of camels, He is to pay close attention, very close attention.”Then the lookout called,“ Lord, I stand continually by day on the watchtower, And I am stationed every night at my guard post.Now behold, here comes a troop of riders, horsemen in pairs.” And one said,“ Fallen, fallen is Babylon; And all the images of her gods are shattered on the ground.”My downtrodden people, and my afflicted of the threshing floor! What I have heard from the Lord of armies, The God of Israel, I make known to you.The pronouncement concerning Edom: One keeps calling to me from Seir,“ Watchman, how far gone is the night? Watchman, how far gone is the night?”The watchman says,“ Morning comes but also night. If you would inquire, inquire; Come back again.”

The watchmen who make the rounds in the city found me, They struck me and wounded me; The guards of the walls took my shawl away from me.

One courier runs to meet another, And one messenger to meet another, To tell the king of Babylon That his city has been captured from end to end;

Give the king Your judgments, God, And Your righteousness to the king’s son.
