They don’t know, neither do they understand. They walk back and forth in darkness. All the foundations of the earth are shaken.

However God’s firm foundation stands, having this seal,“ The Lord knows those who are his,” and,“ Let every one who names the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness.”

Those who will be of you will build the old waste places. You will raise up the foundations of many generations. You will be called Repairer of the Breach, Restorer of Paths with Dwellings.

The earth and all its inhabitants quake. I firmly hold its pillars. Selah.

Now if you are ready whenever you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music to fall down and worship the image which I have made, good; but if you don’t worship, you shall be cast the same hour into the middle of a burning fiery furnace. Who is that god that will deliver you out of my hands?”Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered the king,“ Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.If it happens, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image which you have set up.”

I went to the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabel, who was shut in at his home; and he said,“ Let us meet together in God’s house, within the temple, and let’s shut the doors of the temple; for they will come to kill you. Yes, in the night they will come to kill you.”I said,“ Should a man like me flee? Who is there that, being such as I, would go into the temple to save his life? Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?”’”Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. Then Hezekiah went up to Yahweh’s house, and spread it before Yahweh.Hezekiah prayed before Yahweh, and said,“ Yahweh, the God of Israel, who are enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.Incline your ear, Yahweh, and hear. Open your eyes, Yahweh, and see. Hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to defy the living God.Truly, Yahweh, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands,and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone. Therefore they have destroyed them.

When they heard it, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said,“ O Lord, you are God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them;who by the mouth of your servant, David, said,‘ Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot a vain thing?The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take council together, against the Lord, and against his Christ.’“ For truly, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together against your holy servant, Jesus, whom you anointed,to do whatever your hand and your council foreordained to happen.Now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness,while you stretch out your hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of your holy Servant Jesus.”When they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were gathered together. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.The multitude of those who believed were of one heart and soul. Not one of them claimed that anything of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common.With great power, the apostles gave their testimony of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Great grace was on them all.

Don’t you know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands in any way able to deliver their land out of my hand?Who was there among all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand?Now therefore don’t let Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you in this way. Don’t believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you out of my hand?”

When Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house( now his windows were open in his room toward Jerusalem) and he kneeled on his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did before.Then these men assembled together, and found Daniel making petition and supplication before his God.Then they came near, and spoke before the king concerning the king’s decree:“ Haven’t you signed a decree that every man who makes a petition to any god or man within thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions?” The king answered,“ This thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which doesn’t alter.”Then they answered and said before the king,“ That Daniel, who is of the children of the captivity of Judah, doesn’t respect you, O king, nor the decree that you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day.”Then the king, when he heard these words, was very displeased, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him; and he labored until the going down of the sun to rescue him.Then these men assembled together to the king, and said to the king,“ Know, O king, that it is a law of the Medes and Persians, that no decree nor statute which the king establishes may be changed.”Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. The king spoke and said to Daniel,“ Your God whom you serve continually, he will deliver you.”A stone was brought, and laid on the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel.Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting. No musical instruments were brought before him; and his sleep fled from him.Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste to the den of lions.When he came near to the den to Daniel, he cried with a troubled voice. The king spoke and said to Daniel,“ Daniel, servant of the living God, is your God, whom you serve continually, able to deliver you from the lions?”Then Daniel said to the king,“ O king, live forever!My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not hurt me; because as before him innocence was found in me; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.”Then the king was exceedingly glad, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no kind of harm was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.The king commanded, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions mauled them, and broke all their bones in pieces, before they came to the bottom of the den.Then king Darius wrote to all the peoples, nations, and languages, who dwell in all the earth:“ Peace be multiplied to you.“ I make a decree that in all the dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel;“ for he is the living God, and steadfast forever. His kingdom is that which will not be destroyed. His dominion will be even to the end.He delivers and rescues. He works signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.”So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

The disciples asked him,“ Rabbi, the Jews were just trying to stone you. Are you going there again?”Jesus answered,“ Aren’t there twelve hours of daylight? If a man walks in the day, he doesn’t stumble, because he sees the light of this world.But if a man walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light isn’t in him.”

Then the priests and the prophets spoke to the princes and to all the people, saying,“ This man is worthy of death; for he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your ears.”Then Jeremiah spoke to all the princes and to all the people, saying,“ Yahweh sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that you have heard.Now therefore amend your ways and your doings, and obey Yahweh your God’s voice; then Yahweh will relent from the evil that he has pronounced against you.But as for me, behold, I am in your hand. Do with me what is good and right in your eyes.Only know for certain that, if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood on yourselves, on this city, and on its inhabitants; for in truth Yahweh has sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears.”

In the morning, their rulers, elders, and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem.Annas the high priest was there, with Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and as many as were relatives of the high priest.When they had stood Peter and John in the middle of them, they inquired,“ By what power, or in what name, have you done this?”Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them,“ You rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,if we are examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed,may it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, this man stands here before you whole in him.He is‘ the stone which was regarded as worthless by you, the builders, which has become the head of the corner.’There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!”

The king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Achbor the son of Micaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,“ Go inquire of Yahweh for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found; for great is Yahweh’s wrath that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book, to do according to all that which is written concerning us.”So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe( now she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter); and they talked with her.
