所以他說要除滅他們；要不是他所揀選的摩西在他面前站在破口處，使他的怒火轉消，他早就毀掉他們了！

是以上帝有言、必翦滅之、惟所選之摩西、當其衝、立其前、挽回其怒、免行翦滅兮、

惟時主云將翦滅之、幸有主所選之摩西、立於主前、挽回主怒、不行誅戮、

若非每瑟。為之緩頰。彼代之人。久矣絕跡。

So he said he would destroy them— had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him to keep his wrath from destroying them.

So he said he would destroy them. But Moses, his chosen one, stood up for them. He kept God’s anger from destroying them.

我聞耶和華欲殲滅爾眾、仍伏其前、歷四旬晝夜、

我稽察之、欲得一人、可補藩籬、可塞垣隙、立於我前、代民祈求、免我殲滅、亦不可得。

又曰、我鑒此民、強項不馴、爾勿禱我、我盡滅之、塗抹其名於天下、我將使爾裔、較彼昌大眾多。

在耶路撒冷逵衢、宜急遍行稽察、若得一人行義言真、則其餘亦必加寛宥。

語哥喇及其黨曰、耶和華於詰旦、必明示爾曹、孰為其僕、孰能成聖、可進其前、蓋耶和華所簡者、當進於前。

請爾恕之、不然、則我名錄於爾書者、爾其塗抹。

我居於山、四旬晝夜、與昔無異、耶和華復允我祈、不加殲滅於爾。

爾勿阻我、我怒甚烈、盡滅斯族、昌熾爾裔、以成大邦。摩西於其上帝耶和華前、求之曰、昔爾以巨能大力、導斯民出埃及、今何怒之甚烈乎、浸假行是、則埃及人必將曰、耶和華既導民出、反欲加害、殺之山中、滅之於地、爾其息怒、勿害斯民。求爾憶念爾僕。亞伯拉罕、以撒、以色列、昔爾指己而誓、必熾昌其後、如天星之眾多、錫以所言之地、俾為永業。耶和華聞之、悔其前言、不加禍於民。○

摩西為其臣僕、亞倫為其遴選、上帝特遣之兮、

耶和華降災、以色列族、遭侵伐、城垣見毀、其時爾之先知、不敢爭先禦敵、

惟彼違逆、不從我命、不棄可惡之物、不毀埃及之偶像、故爾祖尚在埃及時、我已憤怒甚烈、欲降災其躬、

爾從世、世人必以為其類而愛之、爾不從世、我乃選爾出乎世、故世人惡爾、

宜各自言其罪、代之祈禱、以望疾瘳、蓋義者勤求無已、獲益不淺、

視我僕也、我選擇之、我愛其人、我心喜之、我將以我神賦之、而彼以法示異邦人、

非爾選我、乃我選爾、命爾結實、而實恆在、則托我名求父者、可賜爾、

然以色列族在曠野、違逆乎我、不遵我禮儀、犯我安息日、浸假有人守我法度、則可保生、惟彼藐視之、故我自謂、必在曠野、震怒斯眾、滅之務盡。夫我所以不加殲滅者、恐列國之人、以我僅導斯民出於埃及、必將藐視我名。
