I will not even consider doing what is dishonest. I hate doing evil; I will have no part of it.

我非禮不視、深惡邪僻、雖片刻不敢從兮、

邪僻之事、不容在我目前、叛逆之事、我最恨惡、不容沾染我身、

蕩滌邪與淫。痛絕虛偽習。

I will not look with approval on anything that is vile. I hate what faithless people do; I will have no part in it.

I won’t look at anything that is evil and call it good. I hate the acts of people who aren’t faithful to you. I won’t have anything to do with those things.

I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me.

I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar. I hate all who deal crookedly; I will have nothing to do with them.

I will not let anything worthless guide me. I hate the practice of transgression; it will not cling to me.

I will set no worthless thing before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me.

I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me.

I will set no base thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; It shall not cleave unto me.

I will not set anything worthless before my eyes. I hate the practice of transgression; it will not cling to me.

I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside;[ it] shall not cleave to me.

I will set no vile thing before my eyes. I hate the deeds of faithless men. They will not cling to me.

Turn my eyes away from what is worthless! Revive me with your word!

“ I made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I entertain thoughts against a virgin?

One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of his palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. Now this woman was very attractive.So David sent someone to inquire about the woman. The messenger said,“ Isn’t this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?”

But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to desire her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

“ You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

Let no one say when he is tempted,“ I am tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one.But each one is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desires.Then when desire conceives, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is full grown, it gives birth to death.

Do not lust in your heart for her beauty, and do not let her captivate you with her alluring eyes;

How blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD and does not seek help from the proud or from liars!

Be very strong! Carefully obey all that is written in the law scroll of Moses so you won’t swerve from it to the right or the left,

Be careful lest you entertain the wicked thought that the seventh year, the year of cancellation of debts, has almost arrived, and your attitude be wrong toward your impoverished fellow Israelite and you do not lend him anything; he will cry out to the LORD against you and you will be regarded as having sinned.

It is better to be content with what the eyes can see than for one’s heart always to crave more. This continual longing is futile– like chasing the wind.

Then Samuel said to the people,“ Don’t be afraid. You have indeed sinned. However, don’t turn aside from the LORD. Serve the LORD with all your heart.You should not turn aside after empty things that can’t profit and can’t deliver, since they are empty.

Love must be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil, cling to what is good.

Everyone rejects God; they are all morally corrupt. None of them does what is right, not even one!

But now that you have come to know God( or rather to be known by God), how can you turn back again to the weak and worthless basic forces? Do you want to be enslaved to them all over again?

But you are always thinking and looking for ways to increase your wealth by dishonest means. Your eyes and your heart are set on killing some innocent person and committing fraud and oppression.

They have quickly turned aside from the way that I commanded them– they have made for themselves a molten calf and have bowed down to it and sacrificed to it and said,‘ These are your gods, O Israel, which brought you up from the land of Egypt.’”

They again challenged God, and offended the Holy One of Israel.

Turn aside from the way, stray off the path. Remove from our presence the Holy One of Israel.”

I hate people with divided loyalties, but I love your law.

For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than, having known it, to turn back from the holy commandment that had been delivered to them.

But we are not among those who shrink back and thus perish, but are among those who have faith and preserve their souls.

Do not look on the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly.Afterward it bites like a snake, and stings like a viper.Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will speak perverse things.And you will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, and like one who lies down on the top of the rigging.You will say,“ They have struck me, but I am not harmed! They beat me, but I did not know it! When will I awake? I will look for another drink.”

You must not take for yourself anything that has been placed under judgment. Then the LORD will relent from his intense anger, show you compassion, have mercy on you, and multiply you as he promised your ancestors.

They confiscate the fields they desire, and seize the houses they want. They defraud people of their homes, and deprive people of the land they have inherited.

The LORD repaid me for my godly deeds; he rewarded my blameless behavior.For I have obeyed the LORD’s commands; I have not rebelled against my God.For I am aware of all his regulations, and I do not reject his rules.I was innocent before him, and kept myself from sinning.

“ I regret that I have made Saul king, for he has turned away from me and has not done what I told him to do.” Samuel became angry and he cried out to the LORD all that night.

Ahab said to Naboth,“ Give me your vineyard so I can make a vegetable garden out of it, for it is adjacent to my palace. I will give you an even better vineyard in its place, or if you prefer, I will pay you silver for it.”But Naboth replied to Ahab,“ The LORD forbid that I should sell you my ancestral inheritance.”So Ahab went into his palace, bitter and angry that Naboth the Jezreelite had said,“ I will not sell to you my ancestral inheritance.” He lay down on his bed, pouted, and would not eat.Then his wife Jezebel came in and said to him,“ Why do you have a bitter attitude and refuse to eat?”He answered her,“ While I was talking to Naboth the Jezreelite, I said to him,‘ Sell me your vineyard for silver, or if you prefer, I will give you another vineyard in its place.’ But he said,‘ I will not sell you my vineyard.’”His wife Jezebel said to him,“ You are the king of Israel! Get up, eat some food, and have a good time. I will get the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite for you.”She wrote out orders, signed Ahab’s name to them, and sealed them with his seal. She then sent the orders to the leaders and to the nobles who lived in Naboth’s city.This is what she wrote:“ Observe a time of fasting and seat Naboth in front of the people.Also seat two villains opposite him and have them testify,‘ You cursed God and the king.’ Then take him out and stone him to death.”The men of the city, the leaders and the nobles who lived there, followed the written orders Jezebel had sent them.They observed a time of fasting and put Naboth in front of the people.The two villains arrived and sat opposite him. Then the villains testified against Naboth right before the people, saying,“ Naboth cursed God and the king.” So they dragged him outside the city and stoned him to death.Then they reported to Jezebel,“ Naboth has been stoned to death.”When Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned to death, she said to Ahab,“ Get up, take possession of the vineyard Naboth the Jezreelite refused to sell you for silver, for Naboth is no longer alive; he’s dead.”When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, he got up and went down to take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.The LORD told Elijah the Tishbite:“ Get up, go down and meet King Ahab of Israel who lives in Samaria. He is at the vineyard of Naboth; he has gone down there to take possession of it.Say to him,‘ This is what the LORD says:“ Haven’t you committed murder and taken possession of the property of the deceased?”’ Then say to him,‘ This is what the LORD says:“ In the spot where dogs licked up Naboth’s blood they will also lick up your blood– yes, yours!”’”When Elijah arrived, Ahab said to him,“ So, you have found me, my enemy!” Elijah replied,“ I have found you, because you are committed to doing evil in the sight of the LORD.The LORD says,‘ Look, I am ready to bring disaster on you. I will destroy you and cut off every last male belonging to Ahab in Israel, including even the weak and incapacitated.I will make your dynasty like those of Jeroboam son of Nebat and Baasha son of Ahijah because you angered me and made Israel sin.’The LORD says this about Jezebel,‘ Dogs will devour Jezebel by the outer wall of Jezreel.’As for Ahab’s family, dogs will eat the ones who die in the city, and the birds of the sky will eat the ones who die in the country.”( There had never been anyone like Ahab, who was firmly committed to doing evil in the sight of the LORD, urged on by his wife Jezebel.He was so wicked he worshiped the disgusting idols, just like the Amorites whom the LORD had driven out from before the Israelites.)When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth, and fasted. He slept in sackcloth and walked around dejected.The LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite,“ Have you noticed how Ahab shows remorse before me? Because he shows remorse before me, I will not bring disaster on his dynasty during his lifetime, but during the reign of his son.”

I decided,“ I will watch what I say and make sure I do not sin with my tongue. I will put a muzzle over my mouth while in the presence of an evil man.”

I do not associate with deceitful men, or consort with those who are dishonest.I hate the mob of evil men, and do not associate with the wicked.

The words he speaks are sinful and deceitful; he does not care about doing what is wise and right.

The one who lives uprightly and speaks honestly; the one who refuses to profit from oppressive measures and rejects a bribe; the one who does not plot violent crimes and does not seek to harm others–

You who love the LORD, hate evil! He protects the lives of his faithful followers; he delivers them from the power of the wicked.

They were unfaithful and acted as treacherously as their ancestors; they were as unreliable as a malfunctioning bow.

I will remove those who worship the stars in the sky from their rooftops, those who swear allegiance to the LORD while taking oaths in the name of their‘ king,’and those who turn their backs on the LORD and do not want the LORD’s help or guidance.”

They approach him, all the while plotting against him. Their hearts are like an oven; their anger smolders all night long, but in the morning it bursts into a flaming fire.All of them are blazing like an oven; they devour their rulers. All of their kings fall– and none of them call on me!

As for those who are bent on traveling a sinful path, may the LORD remove them, along with those who behave wickedly! May Israel experience peace!
