Lord, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.

耶和华啊，谦卑人的心愿，你早已知道。你必预备他们的心，也必侧耳听他们的祈求，

You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,

Lord, you hear the desires of those who are hurting. You cheer them up and give them hope. You listen to their cries.

O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear

LORD, you have heard the desire of the humble; you will strengthen their hearts. You will listen carefully,

Jehovah, thou hast heard the desire of the meek: Thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear;

Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their hearts. You will listen carefully,

LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:

LORD, you have heard the request of the oppressed; you make them feel secure because you listen to their prayer.

Yahweh, you have heard the desire of the humble. You will prepare their heart. You will cause your ear to hear,

“ O Lord, the God of our ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, make your people always want to obey you. See to it that their love for you never changes.

He grants the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cries for help and rescues them.

I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers!

“ But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying,‘ O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.’I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters.Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.

Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.

The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil.”

But the needy will not be ignored forever; the hopes of the poor will not always be crushed.

You were sorry and humbled yourself before God when you heard his words against this city and its people. You humbled yourself and tore your clothing in despair and wept before me in repentance. And I have indeed heard you, says the Lord.

For he who avenges murder cares for the helpless. He does not ignore the cries of those who suffer.

But while in deep distress, Manasseh sought the Lord his God and sincerely humbled himself before the God of his ancestors.And when he prayed, the Lord listened to him and was moved by his request. So the Lord brought Manasseh back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then Manasseh finally realized that the Lord alone is God!

The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help.

At the same time, God’s hand was on the people in the land of Judah, giving them all one heart to obey the orders of the king and his officials, who were following the word of the Lord.

He will listen to the prayers of the destitute. He will not reject their pleas.

In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for“ God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

We can make our own plans, but the Lord gives the right answer.

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.

But while Peter was in prison, the church prayed very earnestly for him.The night before Peter was to be placed on trial, he was asleep, fastened with two chains between two soldiers. Others stood guard at the prison gate.Suddenly, there was a bright light in the cell, and an angel of the Lord stood before Peter. The angel struck him on the side to awaken him and said,“ Quick! Get up!” And the chains fell off his wrists.Then the angel told him,“ Get dressed and put on your sandals.” And he did.“ Now put on your coat and follow me,” the angel ordered.So Peter left the cell, following the angel. But all the time he thought it was a vision. He didn’t realize it was actually happening.They passed the first and second guard posts and came to the iron gate leading to the city, and this opened for them all by itself. So they passed through and started walking down the street, and then the angel suddenly left him.Peter finally came to his senses.“ It’s really true!” he said.“ The Lord has sent his angel and saved me from Herod and from what the Jewish leaders had planned to do to me!”When he realized this, he went to the home of Mary, the mother of John Mark, where many were gathered for prayer.He knocked at the door in the gate, and a servant girl named Rhoda came to open it.When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed that, instead of opening the door, she ran back inside and told everyone,“ Peter is standing at the door!”“ You’re out of your mind!” they said. When she insisted, they decided,“ It must be his angel.”Meanwhile, Peter continued knocking. When they finally opened the door and saw him, they were amazed.He motioned for them to quiet down and told them how the Lord had led him out of prison.“ Tell James and the other brothers what happened,” he said. And then he went to another place.At dawn there was a great commotion among the soldiers about what had happened to Peter.Herod Agrippa ordered a thorough search for him. When he couldn’t be found, Herod interrogated the guards and sentenced them to death. Afterward Herod left Judea to stay in Caesarea for a while.

Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.

They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them.They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly.

The fears of the wicked will be fulfilled; the hopes of the godly will be granted.

And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say,“ God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

“ God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

And Hezekiah and all the people rejoiced because of what God had done for the people, for everything had been accomplished so quickly.

Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us.

When they heard the report, all the believers lifted their voices together in prayer to God:“ O Sovereign Lord, Creator of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them—you spoke long ago by the Holy Spirit through our ancestor David, your servant, saying,‘ Why were the nations so angry? Why did they waste their time with futile plans?The kings of the earth prepared for battle; the rulers gathered together against the Lord and against his Messiah.’“ In fact, this has happened here in this very city! For Herod Antipas, Pontius Pilate the governor, the Gentiles, and the people of Israel were all united against Jesus, your holy servant, whom you anointed.But everything they did was determined beforehand according to your will.And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word.Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.

The Lord detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but he delights in the prayers of the upright.
