利慕伊勒啊，君王喝酒，君王喝酒不相宜；王子说浓酒在那里也不相宜；

利慕伊勒歟、王飲清酒、牧伯問醇醪之所在、皆非所宜、

利母益乎、清酒醇醪、王毋過飲、

利慕伊勒歟、君王飲清酒、掌權者飲醇醪、醇醪或作醉人之物下同皆非所宜、

It is not for kings, Lemuel— it is not for kings to drink wine, not for rulers to crave beer,

Lemuel, it isn’t good for kings to drink wine. It isn’t good for rulers to long for beer.

It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, or for rulers to take strong drink,

It is not for kings, O Lemuel, to guzzle wine. Rulers should not crave alcohol.

It is not for kings, Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine or for rulers to desire beer.

It is not for kings, Lemuel, It is not for kings to drink wine, Or for rulers to desire intoxicating drink,

It is not for kings, O Lemuel, It is not for kings to drink wine, Nor for princes intoxicating drink;

It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; Nor for princes to say, Where is strong drink?

It is not for kings, Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine or for rulers to desire beer.

Happy are you, land, when your king is the son of nobles, and your princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!

Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise.

Woe to those who are mighty to drink wine, and champions at mixing strong drink;

They also reel with wine, and stagger with strong drink. The priest and the prophet reel with strong drink. They are swallowed up by wine. They stagger with strong drink. They err in vision. They stumble in judgment.For all tables are completely full of filthy vomit and filthiness.

“ You and your sons are not to drink wine or strong drink whenever you go into the Tent of Meeting, or you will die. This shall be a statute forever throughout your generations.You are to make a distinction between the holy and the common, and between the unclean and the clean.

Yes, moreover, wine is treacherous. An arrogant man who doesn’t stay at home, who enlarges his desire as Sheol, and he is like death, and can’t be satisfied, but gathers to himself all nations, and heaps to himself all peoples.

Prostitution, wine, and new wine take away understanding.My people consult with their wooden idol, and answer to a stick of wood. Indeed the spirit of prostitution has led them astray, and they have been unfaithful to their God.

Then a convenient day came, that Herod on his birthday made a supper for his nobles, the high officers, and the chief men of Galilee.When the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and those sitting with him. The king said to the young lady,“ Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.”He swore to her,“ Whatever you shall ask of me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom.”She went out, and said to her mother,“ What shall I ask?” She said,“ The head of John the Baptizer.”She came in immediately with haste to the king, and asked,“ I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptizer on a platter.”The king was exceedingly sorry, but for the sake of his oaths, and of his dinner guests, he didn’t wish to refuse her.Immediately the king sent out a soldier of his guard, and commanded to bring John’s head, and he went and beheaded him in the prison,and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the young lady; and the young lady gave it to her mother.
