Then they answered and said before the king,“ That Daniel, who is of the children of the captivity of Judah, doesn’t respect you, O king, nor the decree that you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day.”

You shall not deliver to his master a servant who has escaped from his master to you.

Thus Joash the king didn’t remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son. When he died, he said,“ May Yahweh look at it, and repay it.”At the end of the year, the army of the Syrians came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all their plunder to the king of Damascus.For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men; and Yahweh delivered a very great army into their hand, because they had forsaken Yahweh, the God of their fathers. So they executed judgment on Joash.

He answered,“ My lord, O king, my servant deceived me. For your servant said,‘ I will saddle a donkey for myself, that I may ride on it and go with the king,’ because your servant is lame.He has slandered your servant to my lord the king, but my lord the king is as an angel of God. Therefore do what is good in your eyes.

These also are sayings of the wise. To show partiality in judgment is not good.He who says to the wicked,“ You are righteous,” peoples will curse him, and nations will abhor him—

Then Doeg the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Saul, answered and said,“ I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.He inquired of Yahweh for him, gave him food, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.”

When David was a little past the top, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him with a couple of donkeys saddled, and on them two hundred loaves of bread, and one hundred clusters of raisins, and one hundred summer fruits, and a container of wine.The king said to Ziba,“ What do you mean by these?” Ziba said,“ The donkeys are for the king’s household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that those who are faint in the wilderness may drink.”The king said,“ Where is your master’s son?” Ziba said to the king,“ Behold, he is staying in Jerusalem; for he said,‘ Today the house of Israel will restore me the kingdom of my father.’”Then the king said to Ziba,“ Behold, all that belongs to Mephibosheth is yours.” Ziba said,“ I bow down. Let me find favor in your sight, my lord, O king.”

Now therefore, please let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it is so that Yahweh has stirred you up against me, let him accept an offering. But if it is the children of men, they are cursed before Yahweh; for they have driven me out today that I shouldn’t cling to Yahweh’s inheritance, saying,‘ Go, serve other gods!’

Beware that there not be a wicked thought in your heart, saying,“ The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand,” and your eye be evil against your poor brother and you give him nothing; and he cry to Yahweh against you, and it be sin to you.

Also don’t take heed to all words that are spoken, lest you hear your servant curse you;

Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and brought accusation against the Jews.They answered Nebuchadnezzar the king,“ O king, live for ever!You, O king, have made a decree, that every man that hears the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image;and whoever doesn’t fall down and worship shall be cast into the middle of a burning fiery furnace.There are certain Jews whom you have appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king, have not respected you. They don’t serve your gods, and don’t worship the golden image which you have set up.”Then Nebuchadnezzar in rage and fury commanded that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought. Then these men were brought before the king.Nebuchadnezzar answered them,“ Is it on purpose, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you don’t serve my god, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?Now if you are ready whenever you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music to fall down and worship the image which I have made, good; but if you don’t worship, you shall be cast the same hour into the middle of a burning fiery furnace. Who is that god that will deliver you out of my hands?”Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered the king,“ Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.If it happens, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image which you have set up.”

The king commanded, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions mauled them, and broke all their bones in pieces, before they came to the bottom of the den.

People curse someone who withholds grain, but blessing will be on the head of him who sells it.

One who gives to the poor has no lack; but one who closes his eyes will have many curses.
