Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

And David said to him,“ Will you take me down to this band?” And he said,“ Swear to me by God that you will not kill me or deliver me into the hands of my master, and I will take you down to this band.”

And David said to Saul,“ Why do you listen to the words of men who say,‘ Behold, David seeks your harm’?

Then they answered and said before the king,“ Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, O king, or the injunction you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day.”

Thus they executed judgment on Joash.

He answered,“ My lord, O king, my servant deceived me, for your servant said to him,‘ I will saddle a donkey for myself, that I may ride on it and go with the king.’ For your servant is lame.He has slandered your servant to my lord the king. But my lord the king is like the angel of God; do therefore what seems good to you.

These also are sayings of the wise. Partiality in judging is not good.Whoever says to the wicked,“ You are in the right,” will be cursed by peoples, abhorred by nations,

Then answered Doeg the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Saul,“ I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub,and he inquired of the Lord for him and gave him provisions and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.”

When David had passed a little beyond the summit, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of donkeys saddled, bearing two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred bunches of raisins, a hundred of summer fruits, and a skin of wine.And the king said to Ziba,“ Why have you brought these?” Ziba answered,“ The donkeys are for the king’s household to ride on, the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat, and the wine for those who faint in the wilderness to drink.”And the king said,“ And where is your master’s son?” Ziba said to the king,“ Behold, he remains in Jerusalem, for he said,‘ Today the house of Israel will give me back the kingdom of my father.’”Then the king said to Ziba,“ Behold, all that belonged to Mephibosheth is now yours.” And Ziba said,“ I pay homage; let me ever find favor in your sight, my lord the king.”

Now therefore let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it is the Lord who has stirred you up against me, may he accept an offering, but if it is men, may they be cursed before the Lord, for they have driven me out this day that I should have no share in the heritage of the Lord, saying,‘ Go, serve other gods.’

Take care lest there be an unworthy thought in your heart and you say,‘ The seventh year, the year of release is near,’ and your eye look grudgingly on your poor brother, and you give him nothing, and he cry to the Lord against you, and you be guilty of sin.

Do not take to heart all the things that people say, lest you hear your servant cursing you.

Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came forward and maliciously accused the Jews.They declared to King Nebuchadnezzar,“ O king, live forever!You, O king, have made a decree, that every man who hears the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image.And whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast into a burning fiery furnace.There are certain Jews whom you have appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king, pay no attention to you; they do not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”Then Nebuchadnezzar in furious rage commanded that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought. So they brought these men before the king.Nebuchadnezzar answered and said to them,“ Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the golden image that I have set up?Now if you are ready when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, well and good. But if you do not worship, you shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you out of my hands?”Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king,“ O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”

And the king commanded, and those men who had maliciously accused Daniel were brought and cast into the den of lions— they, their children, and their wives. And before they reached the bottom of the den, the lions overpowered them and broke all their bones in pieces.

The people curse him who holds back grain, but a blessing is on the head of him who sells it.

Whoever gives to the poor will not want, but he who hides his eyes will get many a curse.
