He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear allegiance by God. But he stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to the Lord God of Israel.

“ From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even to this day, these twenty three years the word of the Lord has come to me, and I have spoken to you again and again, but you have not listened.And the Lord has sent to you all His servants the prophets again and again, but you have not listened nor inclined your ear to hear,saying,‘ Turn now, everyone from his evil way and from the evil of your deeds, and live on the land which the Lord has given to you and your forefathers forever and ever;

While they are saying,“ Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction will come upon them like labor pains upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

Now one man drew his bow at random and struck the king of Israel in a joint of the armor. So he said to the driver of his chariot,“ Turn around and take me out of the battle, for I am severely wounded.”The battle raged on that day, and the king was propped up in his chariot in front of the Arameans, and he died at evening, and the blood from the wound ran into the bottom of the chariot.Then the word passed throughout the army close to sunset, saying,“ Every man to his city, and every man to his country!”So the king died and was brought to Samaria, and they buried the king in Samaria.

( Now this man acquired a field with the price of his wickedness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out.

As he was talking with him, the king said to him,“ Have we appointed you to be a royal counselor? Stop! Why should you be put to death?” Then the prophet stopped and said,“ I know that God has planned to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel.”

Therefore say to them,‘ This is what the Lord of armies says:“ Return to Me,” declares the Lord of armies,“ that I may return to you,” says the Lord of armies.“ Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying,‘ This is what the Lord of armies says:“ Return now from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.” ’ But they did not listen or pay attention to Me,” declares the Lord.“ Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?But did My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, not overtake your fathers? Then they repented and said,‘ Just as the Lord of armies planned to do to us in accordance with our ways and our deeds, so He has dealt with us.’ ” ’ ”

And the Lord said,‘ Who will entice Ahab to go up and fall at Ramoth gilead?’ And one spirit said this, while another said that.Then a spirit came forward and stood before the Lord, and said,‘ I will entice him.’And the Lord said to him,‘ How?’ And he said,‘ I will go out and be a deceiving spirit in the mouths of all his prophets.’ Then He said,‘ You shall entice him, and you will also prevail. Go and do so.’Now then, behold, the Lord has put a deceiving spirit in the mouth of all these prophets of yours; and the Lord has declared disaster against you.”

And as they were eating, He said,“ Truly I say to you that one of you will betray Me.”Being deeply grieved, they began saying to Him, each one:“ Surely it is not I, Lord?”And He answered,“ He who dipped his hand with Me in the bowl is the one who will betray Me.The Son of Man is going away just as it is written about Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.”And Judas, who was betraying Him, said,“ Surely it is not I, Rabbi?” Jesus* said to him,“ You have said it yourself.”

Therefore this wrongdoing will be to you Like a breach about to fall, A bulge in a high wall, Whose collapse comes suddenly in an instant,Whose collapse is like the smashing of a potter’s jar, So ruthlessly shattered That a shard will not be found among its pieces To take fire from a hearth Or to scoop water from a cistern.”

Because I know that you are obstinate, And your neck is an iron tendon And your forehead bronze,

Yet they did not listen or incline their ears, but stiffened their necks so as not to listen or accept discipline.

Perhaps they will listen and everyone will turn from his evil way, and I will relent of the disaster which I am planning to inflict on them because of the evil of their deeds.’And you shall say to them,‘ This is what the Lord says:“ If you do not listen to Me, to walk in My Law which I have set before you,to listen to the words of My servants the prophets, whom I have been sending to you again and again, but you have not listened;
