Anyone tormented by the guilt of murder will seek refuge in the grave; let no one hold them back.

Anyone troubled by the guilt of murder will seek to escape their guilt by death. No one should keep them from it.

If one is burdened with the blood of another, he will be a fugitive until death; let no one help him.

A murderer’s tormented conscience will drive him into the grave. Don’t protect him!

The blood avenger shall put the murderer to death when he meets him.‘ But if he pushed him suddenly, without hostility, or threw any object at him without malicious intent,or had any deadly stone, and without looking he dropped it on him so that he died, while he was not his enemy nor was he seeking to harm him,then the congregation shall judge between the one who fatally struck the victim and the blood avenger in accordance with these ordinances.And the congregation shall save the one who committed manslaughter from the hand of the blood avenger, and the congregation shall return him to his city of refuge to which he fled; and he shall live in it until the death of the high priest who was anointed with the holy oil.But if at any time he goes beyond the border of his city of refuge to which he flees,and the blood avenger finds him outside the border of his city of refuge, and the blood avenger kills him, he will not be guilty of bloodshed,because he should have remained in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest. But after the death of the high priest the one who committed manslaughter may return to the land of his property.‘ These things shall be a statutory ordinance for you throughout your generations in all your dwelling places.‘ If anyone kills a person, the murderer shall be put to death on the testimony of witnesses, but no person shall be put to death on the testimony of only one witness.Moreover, you shall not accept a ransom for the life of a murderer who is condemned to death, but he must be put to death.And you shall not accept a ransom for one who has fled to his city of refuge, so that he may return to live in the land before the death of the priest.So you shall not defile the land in which you live; for blood defiles the land, and no atonement can be made for the land for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of the one who shed it.So you shall not defile the land in which you live, in the midst of which I dwell; for I the Lord am dwelling in the midst of the sons of Israel.’ ”

saying,“ I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” But they said,“ What is that to us? You shall see to it yourself!”And he threw the pieces of silver into the temple sanctuary and left; and he went away and hanged himself.

The Lord has also spoken of Jezebel, saying,‘ The dogs will eat Jezebel in the territory of Jezreel.’

‘ I have certainly seen yesterday the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons,’ declares the Lord,‘ and I will repay you on this property,’ declares the Lord. Now then, pick him up and throw him on the property, in accordance with the word of the Lord.”

So they conspired against him, and at the command of the king they stoned him to death in the courtyard of the house of the Lord.So Joash the king did not remember the kindness which Zechariah’s father Jehoiada had shown him, but he murdered his son. And as Zechariah died he said,“ May the Lord see and avenge!”Now it happened at the turn of the year that the army of the Arameans came up against Joash; and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, destroyed all the officials of the people from among the people, and sent all their spoils to the king of Damascus.Indeed, the army of the Arameans came with a small number of men; yet the Lord handed a very great army over to them, because Judah and Joash had abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers. So they executed judgment on Joash.When they left him( for they left him very sick), his own servants conspired against him because of the blood of the son of Jehoiada the priest, and they murdered him on his bed. So he died, and they buried him in the city of David, but they did not bury him in the tombs of the kings.

And you shall speak to him, saying,‘ This is what the Lord says:“ Have you murdered and also taken possession?” ’ And you shall speak to him, saying,‘ The Lord says this:“ In the place where the dogs licked up the blood of Naboth, the dogs will lick up your blood, yours as well.” ’ ”

When the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they began saying to one another,“ Undoubtedly this man is a murderer, and though he has been saved from the sea, justice has not allowed him to live.”
