When godly people win, everyone is very happy. But when sinners take charge, everyone hides.

Certainly my master is aware of what I did when Jezebel was killing the LORD’s prophets. I hid one hundred of the LORD’s prophets in two caves in two groups of fifty and I brought them food and water.

The LORD said,“ Go up and down through the streets of Jerusalem. Look around and see for yourselves. Search through its public squares. See if any of you can find a single person who deals honestly and tries to be truthful. If you can, then I will not punish this city.

That day David first gave to Asaph and his colleagues this song of thanks to the LORD:Give thanks to the LORD! Call on his name! Make known his accomplishments among the nations!Sing to him! Make music to him! Tell about all his miraculous deeds!Boast about his holy name! Let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice!Seek the LORD and the strength he gives! Seek his presence continually!Recall the miraculous deeds he performed, his mighty acts and the judgments he decreed,O children of Israel, God’s servant, you descendants of Jacob, God’s chosen ones!He is the LORD our God; he carries out judgment throughout the earth.Remember continually his covenantal decree, the promise he made to a thousand generations–the promise he made to Abraham, the promise he made by oath to Isaac!He gave it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as a lasting promise,saying,“ To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion of your inheritance.”When they were few in number, just a very few, and foreign residents within it,they wandered from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another.He let no one oppress them, he disciplined kings for their sake,saying,“ Don’t touch my anointed ones! Don’t harm my prophets!”Sing to the LORD, all the earth! Announce every day how he delivers!Tell the nations about his splendor, tell all the nations about his miraculous deeds!For the LORD is great and certainly worthy of praise, he is more awesome than all gods.For all the gods of the nations are worthless, but the LORD made the heavens.Majestic splendor emanates from him, he is the source of strength and joy.Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the nations, ascribe to the LORD splendor and strength!Ascribe to the LORD the splendor he deserves! Bring an offering and enter his presence! Worship the LORD in holy attire!Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is established, it cannot be moved.Let the heavens rejoice, and the earth be happy! Let the nations say,‘ The LORD reigns!’Let the sea and everything in it shout! Let the fields and everything in them celebrate!Then let the trees of the forest shout with joy before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth!Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good and his loyal love endures.Say this prayer:“ Deliver us, O God who delivers us! Gather us! Rescue us from the nations! Then we will give thanks to your holy name, and boast about your praiseworthy deeds.”May the LORD God of Israel be praised, in the future and forevermore. Then all the people said,“ We agree! Praise the LORD!”

“ Leave here and travel eastward. Hide out in the Kerith Valley near the Jordan.Drink from the stream; I have already told the ravens to bring you food there.”So he did as the LORD told him; he went and lived in the Kerith Valley near the Jordan.The ravens would bring him bread and meat each morning and evening, and he would drink from the stream.After a while, the stream dried up because there had been no rain in the land.The LORD told him,“ Get up, go to Zarephath in Sidonian territory, and live there. I have already told a widow who lives there to provide for you.”So he got up and went to Zarephath. When he went through the city gate, there was a widow gathering wood. He called out to her,“ Please give me a cup of water, so I can take a drink.”As she went to get it, he called out to her,“ Please bring me a piece of bread.”She said,“ As certainly as the LORD your God lives, I have no food, except for a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. Right now I am gathering a couple of sticks for a fire. Then I’m going home to make one final meal for my son and myself. After we have eaten that, we will die of starvation.”Elijah said to her,“ Don’t be afraid. Go and do as you planned. But first make a small cake for me and bring it to me; then make something for yourself and your son.For this is what the LORD God of Israel says,‘ The jar of flour will not be empty and the jug of oil will not run out until the day the LORD makes it rain on the surface of the ground.’”She went and did as Elijah told her; there was always enough food for Elijah and for her and her family.The jar of flour was never empty and the jug of oil never ran out, just as the LORD had promised through Elijah.After this the son of the woman who owned the house got sick. His illness was so severe he could no longer breathe.She asked Elijah,“ Why, prophet, have you come to me to confront me with my sin and kill my son?”He said to her,“ Hand me your son.” He took him from her arms, carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him down on his bed.Then he called out to the LORD,“ O LORD, my God, are you also bringing disaster on this widow I am staying with by killing her son?”He stretched out over the boy three times and called out to the LORD,“ O LORD, my God, please let this boy’s breath return to him.”The LORD answered Elijah’s prayer; the boy’s breath returned to him and he lived.Elijah took the boy, brought him down from the upper room to the house, and handed him to his mother. Elijah then said,“ See, your son is alive!”The woman said to Elijah,“ Now I know that you are a prophet and that the LORD really does speak through you.”

Elijah was afraid, so he got up and fled for his life to Beer Sheba in Judah. He left his servant there,

On the twenty-third day of the seventh month, Solomon sent the people home. They left happy and contented because of the good the LORD had done for David, Solomon, and his people Israel.

“ As soon as the ear heard these things, it blessed me, and when the eye saw them, it bore witness to me,for I rescued the poor who cried out for help, and the orphan who had no one to assist him;the blessing of the dying man descended on me, and I made the widow’s heart rejoice;I put on righteousness and it clothed me, my just dealing was like a robe and a turban;I was eyes for the blind and feet for the lame;I was a father to the needy, and I investigated the case of the person I did not know;I broke the fangs of the wicked, and made him drop his prey from his teeth.“ Then I thought,‘ I will die in my own home, my days as numerous as the grains of sand.My roots reach the water, and the dew lies on my branches all night long.My glory will always be fresh in me, and my bow ever new in my hand.’

So David, the leaders of Israel, and the commanders of units of a thousand went to bring up the ark of the LORD’s covenant from the house of Obed-Edom with celebration.When God helped the Levites who were carrying the ark of the LORD’s covenant, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.David was wrapped in a linen robe, as were all the Levites carrying the ark, the musicians, and Kenaniah the supervisor of transport and the musicians; David also wore a linen ephod.All Israel brought up the ark of the LORD’s covenant; they were shouting, blowing trumpets, sounding cymbals, and playing stringed instruments.

Look, my father, and see the edge of your robe in my hand! When I cut off the edge of your robe, I didn’t kill you. So realize and understand that I am not planning evil or rebellion. Even though I have not sinned against you, you are waiting in ambush to take my life.

David told the entire assembly:“ Praise the LORD your God!” So the entire assembly praised the LORD God of their ancestors; they bowed down and stretched out flat on the ground before the LORD and the king.The next day they made sacrifices and offered burnt sacrifices to the LORD( 1,000 bulls, 1,000 rams, 1,000 lambs), along with their accompanying drink offerings and many other sacrifices for all Israel.They held a feast before the LORD that day and celebrated. Then they designated Solomon, David’s son, as king a second time; before the LORD they anointed him as ruler and Zadok as priest.

Now Mordecai went out from the king’s presence in purple and white royal attire, with a large golden crown and a purple linen mantle. The city of Susa shouted with joy.For the Jews there was radiant happiness and joyous honor.Throughout every province and throughout every city where the king’s edict and his law arrived, the Jews experienced happiness and joy, banquets and holidays. Many of the resident peoples pretended to be Jews, because the fear of the Jews had overcome them.

They were stoned, sawed apart, murdered with the sword; they went about in sheepskins and goatskins; they were destitute, afflicted, ill- treated( the world was not worthy of them); they wandered in deserts and mountains and caves and openings in the earth.

I have seen another misfortune on the earth: It is an error a ruler makes.Fools are placed in many positions of authority, while wealthy men sit in lowly positions.

Hezekiah expressed his appreciation to all the Levites, who demonstrated great skill in serving the LORD. They feasted for the seven days of the festival, and were making peace offerings and giving thanks to the LORD God of their ancestors.The entire assembly then decided to celebrate for seven more days; so they joyfully celebrated for seven more days.King Hezekiah of Judah supplied 1,000 bulls and 7,000 sheep for the assembly, while the officials supplied them with 1,000 bulls and 10,000 sheep. Many priests consecrated themselves.The celebration included the entire assembly of Judah, the priests, the Levites, the entire assembly of those who came from Israel, the resident foreigners who came from the land of Israel, and the residents of Judah.There was a great celebration in Jerusalem, unlike anything that had occurred in Jerusalem since the time of King Solomon son of David of Israel.The priests and Levites got up and pronounced blessings on the people. The LORD responded favorably to them as their prayers reached his holy dwelling place in heaven.

He also ordered Jerahmeel, who was one of the royal princes, Seraiah son of Azriel, and Shelemiah son of Abdeel to arrest the scribe Baruch and the prophet Jeremiah. However, the LORD hid them.

As he approached the road leading down from the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen:“ Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

Woe to you, O land, when your king is childish, and your princes feast in the morning!
