耶穌在宴席中看見賓客們都爭著坐首位，就用比喻對他們說：「參加婚宴的時候，不要坐在首位，因為或許有更尊貴的賓客來赴宴，主人會把他帶到你面前，說，『請你把首位讓給他吧！』你就要滿面羞愧地退到末位去了。你去赴宴時，應該先坐在末位，這樣主人會對你說，『朋友，請上坐！』那時，你在賓客面前就有光彩了。因為自高的人必遭貶抑，謙卑的人必得尊榮。」

你們年輕的要順服年長的，大家都要存謙卑的心彼此服侍。因為上帝阻擋驕傲的人，恩待謙卑的人。

「我告訴你們，二人回家後，被上帝算為義的是稅吏而不是法利賽人，因為自高的人必遭貶抑，謙卑的人必得尊榮。」

寧可謙卑地與貧寒人相處，也不跟狂傲人共享戰利品。

此後，我再觀看，見天上有一扇門開了，又聽見剛才那個像號角般響亮的聲音對我說：「你上這裡來，我要把以後必發生的事指示給你看。」
