Do not lie in wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; Do not plunder his resting place;

Do not lurk like a thief near the house of the righteous, do not plunder their dwelling place;

Don’t hide and wait like a burglar near a godly person’s house. Don’t rob their home.

Lie not in wait as a wicked man against the dwelling of the righteous; do no violence to his home;

Don’t wait in ambush at the home of the godly, and don’t raid the house where the godly live.

Don’t set an ambush, you wicked one, at the camp of the righteous man; don’t destroy his dwelling.

Do not lie in ambush, you wicked person, against the home of the righteous; Do not destroy his resting place;

Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the habitation of the righteous; Destroy not his resting- place:

Wicked man, don’t set an ambush, at the camp of the righteous man; don’t destroy his dwelling.

Do not lie in wait like the wicked against the place where the righteous live; do not assault his home.

Now therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of your soul to come down; and our part shall be to deliver him into the king’s hand.”And Saul said,“ Blessed are you of the Lord, for you have compassion on me.Please go and find out for sure, and see the place where his hideout is, and who has seen him there. For I am told he is very crafty.See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hides; and come back to me with certainty, and I will go with you. And it shall be, if he is in the land, that I will search for him throughout all the clans of Judah.”

And the king said to Doeg,“ You turn and kill the priests!” So Doeg the Edomite turned and struck the priests, and killed on that day eighty-five men who wore a linen ephod.Also Nob, the city of the priests, he struck with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and nursing infants, oxen and donkeys and sheep— with the edge of the sword.

asking a favor against him, that he would summon him to Jerusalem— while they lay in ambush along the road to kill him.

He sits in the lurking places of the villages; In the secret places he murders the innocent; His eyes are secretly fixed on the helpless.He lies in wait secretly, as a lion in his den; He lies in wait to catch the poor; He catches the poor when he draws him into his net.So he crouches, he lies low, That the helpless may fall by his strength.

As they went up the hill to the city, they met some young women going out to draw water, and said to them,“ Is the seer here?”

They gather together, They hide, they mark my steps, When they lie in wait for my life.

Do not remove the ancient landmark Which your fathers have set.

The wicked watches the righteous, And seeks to slay him.

But their plot became known to Saul. And they watched the gates day and night, to kill him.

My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation, In secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places,

For look, they lie in wait for my life; The mighty gather against me, Not for my transgression nor for my sin, O Lord.

So when Paul’s sister’s son heard of their ambush, he went and entered the barracks and told Paul.

But I was like a docile lamb brought to the slaughter; and I did not know that they had devised schemes against me, saying,“ Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be remembered no more.”
