“ Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom;but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block, and to Gentiles foolishness,but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Do not answer a fool according to his foolishness, Or you will also be like him.Answer a fool as his foolishness deserves, So that he will not be wise in his own eyes.

Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things and were ridiculing Him.

Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some began to scoff, but others said,“ We shall hear from you again concerning this.”

But they were silent and did not answer him so much as a word; for the king’s command was,“ Do not answer him.”

And some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers as well were conversing with him. Some were saying,“ What could this scavenger of tidbits want to say?” Others,“ He seems to be a proclaimer of strange deities,”— because he was preaching Jesus and the resurrection.

The Jews said to Him,“ Now we know that You have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets as well; and yet You say,‘ If anyone follows My word, he will never taste of death.’

Many of them were saying,“ He has a demon and is insane. Why do you listen to Him?”

But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began contradicting the things spoken by Paul, and were blaspheming.Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said,“ It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first. Since you repudiate it and consider yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles.

The man answered and said to them,“ Well, here is the amazing thing, that you do not know where He is from, and yet He opened my eyes!We know that God does not listen to sinners; but if someone is God fearing and does His will, He listens to him.Since the beginning of time it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind.If this man were not from God, He could do nothing.”They answered him,“ You were born entirely in sins, and yet you are teaching us?” So they put him out.

And when they disagreed with one another, they began leaving after Paul said one parting statement:“ The Holy Spirit rightly spoke through Isaiah the prophet to your fathers,saying,‘ Go to this people and say,“ You will keep on hearing, and will not understand; And you will keep on seeing, and will not perceive;For the hearts of this people have become insensitive, And with their ears they hardly hear, And they have closed their eyes; Otherwise they might see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart and return, And I would heal them.” ’Therefore, let it be known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will also listen.”

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Those who were with Him from the Pharisees heard these things and said to Him,“ We are not blind too, are we?”

We are fools on account of Christ, but you are prudent in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are without honor!Up to this present hour we are both hungry and thirsty, and are poorly clothed and roughly treated and homeless;and we labor, working with our own hands; when we are verbally abused, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it;when we are slandered, we reply as friends; we have become as the scum of the world, the dregs of all things, even until now.
