如果一個豐衣足食的人看見貧窮的弟兄姊妹，卻毫無憐憫之心，怎能說他愛上帝呢？所以，孩子們啊，不要單在口頭上說愛人，總要以真誠的行動表現出來。

窮人哀聲懇求，富人惡言相向。

如果有弟兄姊妹缺衣少食，你們只是對他們說：「安心走吧，願你們穿得暖，吃得飽」，卻不幫助他解決實際困難，這有什麼用呢？

你們反倒侮辱窮人。其實欺壓你們、抓你們上法庭的不是那些富人嗎？

這城裡有一個貧窮的智者，他用智慧拯救了這城，但事後人們卻把他遺忘了。我認為智慧勝過武力，然而那位窮人的智慧卻被輕視，他所說的話也無人理會。

你使我的親朋好友離我而去，只有黑暗與我相伴。

他就高聲呼喊：「大衛的後裔耶穌啊，可憐我吧！」走在前面的人責備他，讓他安靜，但他反而叫得更大聲：「大衛的後裔啊，可憐我吧！」耶穌停下腳步，命人把他帶過來，然後問他：

窮人遭鄰舍厭，富人朋友眾多。

你使我眾叛親離，遭人唾棄。我陷入困境，無路可逃。
