A dishonest witness makes fun of what is right. The mouths of those who do wrong gulp down evil.

A worthless witness mocks at justice, and the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity.

A worthless witness mocks justice, and a wicked mouth swallows iniquity.

A worthless witness makes a mockery of justice, And the mouth of the wicked swallows wrongdoing.

A disreputable witness scorns justice, And the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity.

A worthless witness mocketh at justice; And the mouth of the wicked swalloweth iniquity.

An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.

How much less pure is a corrupt and sinful person with a thirst for wickedness!

“ Tell me, has there ever been a man like Job, with his thirst for irreverent talk?

“ They enjoyed the sweet taste of wickedness, letting it melt under their tongue.They savored it, holding it long in their mouths.

So they persuaded some men to lie about Stephen, saying,“ We heard him blaspheme Moses, and even God.”This roused the people, the elders, and the teachers of religious law. So they arrested Stephen and brought him before the high council.The lying witnesses said,“ This man is always speaking against the holy Temple and against the law of Moses.

The wicked think,“ God isn’t watching us! He has closed his eyes and won’t even see what we do!”

Yet they succeed in everything they do. They do not see your punishment awaiting them. They sneer at all their enemies.

“ When the people bring their sin offerings, the priests get fed. So the priests are glad when the people sin!

Therefore, listen to this message from the Lord, you scoffing rulers in Jerusalem.You boast,“ We have struck a bargain to cheat death and have made a deal to dodge the grave. The coming destruction can never touch us, for we have built a strong refuge made of lies and deception.”Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says:“ Look! I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem, a firm and tested stone. It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on. Whoever believes need never be shaken.I will test you with the measuring line of justice and the plumb line of righteousness. Since your refuge is made of lies, a hailstorm will knock it down. Since it is made of deception, a flood will sweep it away.I will cancel the bargain you made to cheat death, and I will overturn your deal to dodge the grave. When the terrible enemy sweeps through, you will be trampled into the ground.
