Flog a mocker, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke the discerning, and they will gain knowledge.

If you whip a person who makes fun of others, childish people will learn to be wise. If you warn those who already understand what is right, they will gain even more knowledge.

Strike a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; reprove a man of understanding, and he will gain knowledge.

So don’t bother correcting mockers; they will only hate you. But correct the wise, and they will love you.Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more.Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.

I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.
