Those who disregard discipline despise themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding.

If you reject discipline, you only harm yourself; but if you listen to correction, you grow in understanding.

Since I called out and you refused, extended my hand and no one paid attention,since you neglected all my counsel and did not accept my correction,I, in turn, will laugh at your calamity. I will mock when terror strikes you,when terror strikes you like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when trouble and stress overcome you.Then they will call me, but I won’t answer; they will search for me, but won’t find me.Because they hated knowledge, didn’t choose to fear the LORD,were not interested in my counsel, and rejected all my correction,they will eat the fruit of their way and be glutted with their own schemes.For the apostasy of the inexperienced will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.But whoever listens to me will live securely and be undisturbed by the dread of danger.”

But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

“ Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock.But everyone who hears these words of mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. It collapsed with a great crash.”

As many as I love, I rebuke and discipline. So be zealous and repent.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and discipline.

One who becomes stiff-necked, after many reprimands will be shattered instantly— beyond recovery.

Foolishness brings joy to one without sense, but a person with understanding walks a straight path.

A discerning mind seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.

They will say to the elders of his city,‘ This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he doesn’t obey us. He’s a glutton and a drunkard.’

At the end of your life, you will lament when your physical body has been consumed,and you will say,“ How I hated discipline, and how my heart despised correction.I didn’t obey my teachers or listen closely to my instructors.

The mind of the discerning acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks it.

“ If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father or mother and doesn’t listen to them even after they discipline him,

Because of the depravity of your uncleanness— since I tried to purify you, but you would not be purified from your uncleanness— you will not be pure again until I have satisfied my wrath on you.I, the LORD, have spoken. It is coming, and I will do it! I will not refrain, I will not show pity, and I will not relent. I will judge you according to your ways and deeds. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.’”

Listen to instruction and be wise; don’t ignore it.Anyone who listens to me is happy, watching at my doors every day, waiting by the posts of my doorway.For the one who finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD,but the one who misses me harms himself; all who hate me love death.”

Why does a fool have money in his hand with no intention of buying wisdom?

You hate instruction and fling my words behind you.

Why do you want more beatings? Why do you keep on rebelling? The whole head is hurt, and the whole heart is sick.

LORD, don’t your eyes look for faithfulness? You have struck them, but they felt no pain. You finished them off, but they refused to accept discipline. They made their faces harder than rock, and they refused to return.

Make sure that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no root of bitterness springs up, causing trouble and defiling many.
