Where there is strife, there is pride, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.

By insolence comes nothing but strife, but with those who take advice is wisdom.

Pride leads to conflict; those who take advice are wise.

Arrogance leads to nothing but strife, but wisdom is gained by those who take advice.

By pride cometh only contention; But with the well- advised is wisdom.

Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is with people who take advice.

But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth.This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic.For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing.

What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is the source not your pleasures that wage war in your body’s parts?

he is conceited and understands nothing; but he has a sick craving for controversial questions and disputes about words, from which come envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions,

The beginning of strife is like letting out water, So abandon the quarrel before it breaks out.

The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But a person who listens to advice is wise.A fool’s anger is known at once, But a prudent person conceals dishonor.

And a dispute also developed among them as to which one of them was regarded as being the greatest.

Listen to advice and accept discipline, So that you may be wise the rest of your days.

For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it?Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who are watching it will begin to ridicule him,saying,‘ This person began to build, and was not able to finish!’Or what king, when he sets out to meet another king in battle, will not first sit down and consider whether he is strong enough with ten thousand men to face the one coming against him with twenty thousand?Otherwise, while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and requests terms of peace.

When all Israel saw that the king had not listened to them, the people replied to the king, saying,“ What share do we have in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse; To your tents, Israel! Now look after your own house, David!” So Israel went away to their tents.

In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said,“ It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables.Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to themand will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. (niv)

The Ephraimite forces were called out, and they crossed over to Zaphon. They said to Jephthah,“ Why did you go to fight the Ammonites without calling us to go with you? We’re going to burn down your house over your head.”Jephthah answered,“ I and my people were engaged in a great struggle with the Ammonites, and although I called, you didn’t save me out of their hands.When I saw that you wouldn’t help, I took my life in my hands and crossed over to fight the Ammonites, and the Lord gave me the victory over them. Now why have you come up today to fight me?”Jephthah then called together the men of Gilead and fought against Ephraim. The Gileadites struck them down because the Ephraimites had said,“ You Gileadites are renegades from Ephraim and Manasseh.”The Gileadites captured the fords of the Jordan leading to Ephraim, and whenever a survivor of Ephraim said,“ Let me cross over,” the men of Gilead asked him,“ Are you an Ephraimite?” If he replied,“ No,”they said,“ All right, say‘ Shibboleth.’” If he said,“ Sibboleth,” because he could not pronounce the word correctly, they seized him and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. Forty-two thousand Ephraimites were killed at that time. (niv)

do not bring hastily to court, for what will you do in the end if your neighbor puts you to shame? (niv)

The young men who had grown up with him replied,“ These people have said to you,‘ Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but make our yoke lighter.’ Now tell them,‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.My father laid on you a heavy yoke; I will make it even heavier. Aren’t the gleanings of Ephraim’s grapes better than the full grape harvest of Abiezer?God gave Oreb and Zeeb, the Midianite leaders, into your hands. The proud and arrogant person—“ Mocker” is his name— behaves with insolent fury. (niv)

Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us?But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:“ God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” (niv)

Plans are established by seeking advice; so if you wage war, obtain guidance. (niv)
