蔑鄰者無知、通達者緘口、

愚者暴人之短、智者隱人之惡。

無知者侮慢同人、明哲人緘默不言、

Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense, but the one who has understanding holds their tongue.

Whoever makes fun of their neighbor has no sense. But the one who has understanding controls their tongue.

Whoever belittles his neighbor lacks sense, but a man of understanding remains silent.

It is foolish to belittle one’s neighbor; a sensible person keeps quiet.

Whoever shows contempt for his neighbor lacks sense, but a person with understanding keeps silent.

One who despises his neighbor lacks sense, But a person of understanding keeps silent.

He who is devoid of wisdom despises his neighbor, But a man of understanding holds his peace.

Whoever shows contempt for his neighbor lacks sense, but a man with understanding keeps silent.

The one who denounces his neighbor lacks wisdom, but the one who has discernment keeps silent.

Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed[ himself] to him that judgeth righteously:

In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips[ is] wise.

And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease,[ and] with the contempt of the proud.

And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.

Then said Zebul unto him, Where[ is] now thy mouth, wherewith thou saidst, Who[ is] Abimelech, that we should serve him?[ is] not this the people that thou hast despised? go out, I pray now, and fight with them.

But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought him no presents. But he held his peace.

He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy[ is] he.

And he spake before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What do these feeble Jews? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned?Now Tobiah the Ammonite[ was] by him, and he said, Even that which they build, if a fox go up, he shall even break down their stone wall.Hear, O our God; for we are despised: and turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of captivity:

But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

And they went out into the fields, and gathered their vineyards, and trode[ the grapes], and made merry, and went into the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and cursed Abimelech.And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who[ is] Abimelech, and who[ is] Shechem, that we should serve him?[ is] not[ he] the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him?And would to God this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out.

Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.Nicodemus saith unto them,( he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)Doth our law judge[ any] man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
