Such are the paths of all who go after ill-gotten gain; it takes away the life of those who get it.

That’s what happens to everyone who goes after money in the wrong way. That kind of money takes away the life of those who get it.

Such are the ways of everyone who is greedy for unjust gain; it takes away the life of its possessors.

Such is the fate of all who are greedy for money; it robs them of life.

Such are the paths of all who make profit dishonestly; it takes the lives of those who receive it.

My master has sent me, saying,‘ Indeed, just now two young men of the sons of the prophets have come to me from the mountains of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two changes of garments.’”So Naaman said,“ Please, take two talents.” And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and handed them to two of his servants; and they carried them on ahead of him.When he came to the citadel, he took them from their hand, and stored them away in the house; then he let the men go, and they departed.Now he went in and stood before his master. Elisha said to him,“ Where did you go, Gehazi?” And he said,“ Your servant did not go anywhere.”Then he said to him,“ Did not my heart go with you when the man turned back from his chariot to meet you? Is it time to receive money and to receive clothing, olive groves and vineyards, sheep and oxen, male and female servants?Therefore the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and your descendants forever.” And he went out from his presence leprous, as white as snow.

If I have eaten its fruit without money, Or caused its owners to lose their lives;

Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you!Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten.Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. “ Woe to him who covets evil gain for his house, That he may set his nest on high, That he may be delivered from the power of disaster!

There is a severe evil which I have seen under the sun: Riches kept for their owner to his hurt.

having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children.They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet.

So Joab said to the man who told him,“ You just saw him! And why did you not strike him there to the ground? I would have given you ten shekels of silver and a belt.”But the man said to Joab,“ Though I were to receive a thousand shekels of silver in my hand, I would not raise my hand against the king’s son. Who build up Zion with bloodshed And Jerusalem with iniquity:Her heads judge for a bribe, Her priests teach for pay, And her prophets divine for money. Yet they lean on the Lord, and say,“ Is not the Lord among us? No harm can come upon us.”Therefore because of you Zion shall be plowed like a field, Jerusalem shall become heaps of ruins, And the mountain of the temple Like the bare hills of the forest.

“ Yet your eyes and your heart are for nothing but your covetousness, For shedding innocent blood, And practicing oppression and violence.”Therefore thus says the Lord concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:“ They shall not lament for him, Saying,‘ Alas, my brother!’ or‘ Alas, my sister!’“ They shall not lament for him, Saying,‘ Alas, master!’ or‘ Alas, his glory!’He shall be buried with the burial of a donkey, Dragged and cast out beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
