耶穌說：“手扶著犁向後看的，不適合進神的國。”

所以，我們既然有這麼多的見證人，像雲彩圍繞著我們，就應該脫下各樣的拖累，和容易纏住我們的罪，以堅忍的心奔跑那擺在我們面前的賽程；專一注視耶穌，就是那位信心的創造者和完成者。他因為那擺在面前的喜樂，就忍受了十字架，輕看了羞辱，現在就坐在神寶座的右邊。

這並不是說我已經得著了，已經完全了，而是竭力追求，好使我可以得著基督耶穌所以得著我的（“所以得著我的”或譯：“要我得著的”）。

難道你們不知道，在場上賽跑的人，雖然大家都跑，但得獎的只有一個人嗎？你們都應當這樣跑，好叫你們可以得獎。凡參加運動比賽的，在一切事上都有節制；他們這樣作，不過要得到能壞的冠冕，我們卻是要得不朽的冠冕。所以我奔跑，不是沒有目標的；我鬥拳，不是打空氣的。我要克制自己的身體，叫身體服我，免得我傳了給別人，自己反而落選了。

有一件事我求過耶和華，我還要尋求；我要一生一世住在耶和華的殿裡，瞻仰他的榮美，在他的殿中求問。

不但這樣，我也把萬事當作是有損的，因為我以認識我主基督耶穌為至寶。為了他，我把萬事都拋棄了，看作廢物，為了要得著基督。

所以，我們應當離開基督初步的道理，努力進到成熟的地步，不必在懊悔致死的行為，信靠神，洗禮，按手禮，死人復活，和永遠審判的教訓上再立根基。

我並不是因為缺乏才這樣說：我已經學會了，無論在甚麼情況之下都可以知足。我知道怎樣處卑賤，也知道怎樣處富裕；我已經得了祕訣，無論在任何情況之下，或是飽足，或是飢餓，或是富裕，或是缺乏，都可以知足。我靠著那加給我能力的，凡事都能作。

這樣看來，我所親愛的，你們素來是順服的，（不但我在你們那裡的時候是這樣，現今我不在，你們更要順服，）就應當恐懼戰兢地作成自己的救恩。

那有甚麼關係呢？真心也好，假意也好，無論怎麼樣，基督總被傳開了，為此我就歡喜；並且我還要歡喜，因為我知道，藉著你們的祈求和耶穌基督的靈的幫助，我一定會得到釋放。我所熱切期待和盼望的，就是在凡事上我都不會羞愧，只要滿有膽量，不論生死，總要讓基督在我身上照常被尊為大。因為我活著就是基督，我死了就有益處。

但是最需要的只有一件，馬利亞已經選擇了那上好的分，是不能從她奪去的。”

所以，從今以後，我們不再按照人的看法認識人；雖然我們曾經按照人的看法認識基督，但現在不再這樣了。

親愛的，這一件事你們不可忘記：在主看來，一日如千年，千年如一日。

王所愛的女子啊！你要聽，要看，要留心地聽；你要忘記你的本族和你的父家；

但現在這一帶再沒有可傳的地方，而我多年來又很想去見你們，所以，無論我甚麼時候到西班牙去，都希望趁我路過時和你們見面，先稍微滿足我的心願，然後由你們給我送行到那裡去。不過，我現在為了供應聖徒的事要往耶路撒冷去；因為馬其頓和亞該亞人樂意捐了一些錢，給耶路撒冷聖徒中的窮人。他們是樂意的，而且那也是他們的本分（“本分”原文作“債”），因為外族人既然分享了猶太人屬靈的好處，就應該供應他們肉身的需要。等我辦好這件事，把這筆款項安全地交了給他們，我就要路過你們那裡到西班牙去。我知道我到你們那裡去的時候，一定會帶著基督豐盛的福分。
