耶稣说：“手扶着犁向后看的，不适合进神的国。”

所以，我们既然有这么多的见证人，像云彩围绕着我们，就应该脱下各样的拖累，和容易缠住我们的罪，以坚忍的心奔跑那摆在我们面前的赛程；专一注视耶稣，就是那位信心的创造者和完成者。他因为那摆在面前的喜乐，就忍受了十字架，轻看了羞辱，现在就坐在神宝座的右边。

这并不是说我已经得着了，已经完全了，而是竭力追求，好使我可以得着基督耶稣所以得着我的（“所以得着我的”或译：“要我得着的”）。

难道你们不知道，在场上赛跑的人，虽然大家都跑，但得奖的只有一个人吗？你们都应当这样跑，好叫你们可以得奖。凡参加运动比赛的，在一切事上都有节制；他们这样作，不过要得到能坏的冠冕，我们却是要得不朽的冠冕。所以我奔跑，不是没有目标的；我斗拳，不是打空气的。我要克制自己的身体，叫身体服我，免得我传了给别人，自己反而落选了。

有一件事我求过耶和华，我还要寻求；我要一生一世住在耶和华的殿里，瞻仰他的荣美，在他的殿中求问。

不但这样，我也把万事当作是有损的，因为我以认识我主基督耶稣为至宝。为了他，我把万事都抛弃了，看作废物，为了要得着基督。

所以，我们应当离开基督初步的道理，努力进到成熟的地步，不必在懊悔致死的行为，信靠神，洗礼，按手礼，死人复活，和永远审判的教训上再立根基。

我并不是因为缺乏才这样说：我已经学会了，无论在什么情况之下都可以知足。我知道怎样处卑贱，也知道怎样处富裕；我已经得了秘诀，无论在任何情况之下，或是饱足，或是饥饿，或是富裕，或是缺乏，都可以知足。我靠着那加给我能力的，凡事都能作。

这样看来，我所亲爱的，你们素来是顺服的，（不但我在你们那里的时候是这样，现今我不在，你们更要顺服，）就应当恐惧战兢地作成自己的救恩。

那有什么关系呢？真心也好，假意也好，无论怎么样，基督总被传开了，为此我就欢喜；并且我还要欢喜，因为我知道，藉着你们的祈求和耶稣基督的灵的帮助，我一定会得到释放。我所热切期待和盼望的，就是在凡事上我都不会羞愧，只要满有胆量，不论生死，总要让基督在我身上照常被尊为大。因为我活着就是基督，我死了就有益处。

但是最需要的只有一件，马利亚已经选择了那上好的分，是不能从她夺去的。”

所以，从今以后，我们不再按照人的看法认识人；虽然我们曾经按照人的看法认识基督，但现在不再这样了。

亲爱的，这一件事你们不可忘记：在主看来，一日如千年，千年如一日。

王所爱的女子啊！你要听，要看，要留心地听；你要忘记你的本族和你的父家；

但现在这一带再没有可传的地方，而我多年来又很想去见你们，所以，无论我什么时候到西班牙去，都希望趁我路过时和你们见面，先稍微满足我的心愿，然后由你们给我送行到那里去。不过，我现在为了供应圣徒的事要往耶路撒冷去；因为马其顿和亚该亚人乐意捐了一些钱，给耶路撒冷圣徒中的穷人。他们是乐意的，而且那也是他们的本分（“本分”原文作“债”），因为外族人既然分享了犹太人属灵的好处，就应该供应他们肉身的需要。等我办好这件事，把这笔款项安全地交了给他们，我就要路过你们那里到西班牙去。我知道我到你们那里去的时候，一定会带着基督丰盛的福分。
