此則出於仁愛、知我為辯福音而用、

此則由愛心、知我為辯福音而立、

彼則不本至誠、徒以基督為號召、而自立門戶、藉欲重貽吾憂於囹圄之中。

The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.

But the others preach about Christ only to get ahead. They preach Christ for the wrong reasons. They think they can stir up trouble for me while I am being held by chains.

Those others do not have pure motives as they preach about Christ. They preach with selfish ambition, not sincerely, intending to make my chains more painful to me.

But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.

The former proclaim Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, because they think they can cause trouble for me in my imprisonment.

but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the Good News.

for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher,which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me.

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.

It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel.

For if I preach the gospel, that gives me no ground for boasting. For necessity is laid upon me. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward, but if not of my own will, I am still entrusted with a stewardship.

At my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not be charged against them!

So Agrippa said to Paul,“ You have permission to speak for yourself.” Then Paul stretched out his hand and made his defense:

For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come.I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle( I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

Settle it therefore in your minds not to meditate beforehand how to answer,

And as he was saying these things in his defense, Festus said with a loud voice,“ Paul, you are out of your mind; your great learning is driving you out of your mind.”

On the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted with the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been entrusted with the gospel to the circumcised( for he who worked through Peter for his apostolic ministry to the circumcised worked also through me for mine to the Gentiles),
