And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.

And because I am a prisoner, most of the believers have become bolder in the Lord. They now dare even more to preach the good news without fear.

And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.

And because of my imprisonment, most of the believers here have gained confidence and boldly speak God’s message without fear.

亦為予祈求辯才無礙、俾能以大無畏精神、闡發福音之蘊奧。蓋我已為福音之故而成為被鍊加鎖之星使。果能不為威武所屈、侃侃而談、庶幾不辱使命、是所至願也。

爾等諒憶當時吾儕在斐立比、雖已飽嘗辛艱凌辱、然賴我天主、再接再勵餘勇可賈、復於重重磨折之中、為爾傳述天主福音。

俾我得闡揚基督之玄妙、而暢發其底蘊。願爾祈求天主、使我能闡發聖道；我今身被桎梏正為此。

二人既釋、以司祭長與長老所言告諸會友、眾皆揚聲讚頌上主曰：『主！爾立天地、作江海、締造萬物、復以聖神假爾僕大維之口而言曰：「何列國之擾攘兮何萬民之猖狂。世酋蠭起兮、跋扈飛揚。意圖背叛天主兮、反抗受命之王。」今希祿與般雀‧比辣多果率異邦及義塞之人民、群集於城、反抗爾之聖子耶穌即爾所膏沐、以奉行爾所手訂之聖謨者也。祈主一視彼眾之威脅、使爾僕以大無畏精神、宣揚爾道；求爾援手、俾治疾病、並托聖子耶穌之名以行神蹟。』禱畢、大地震動、眾感聖神、無不昌言天主之道焉。

予今告爾、孰當畏者、既殺其身、而又能投之於地獄者、斯足畏焉。予勸爾畏之。五雀非售二分銀乎？然在天主之前、固無一雀被遺忘也。即爾頭上之髮、亦莖莖有數。毋事憂懼爾固貴於群雀也。

我等主耶穌基督之天主聖父、仁慈之宗、眾慰之淵也；吾願光榮歸之。天主慰吾儕於憂患之中、亦欲吾儕以所見慰於天主者、轉慰他人於憂患中耳。蓋吾儕固為基督飽嘗苦難、亦因基督而飽領神慰。然吾儕之受苦、所以成全爾等之安慰及救恩；即吾儕之受慰、亦所以慰勉爾等、俾能以堅忍不拔之精神、與吾儕同受其苦耳。且吾儕於爾等實懷厚望；固知爾等既與吾儕同受苦難、亦必與吾儕同享安慰也。

既脫諸敵、俾我無懼、

故望爾等勿因吾為爾受難、而頹然沮喪。應知吾之受難、爾亦與有榮焉。

是故我之歡心、我之榮冠、我所愛慕欣羨之兄弟乎！吾望爾等於主道中立定腳跟、確乎不拔也。

此則予所深信不疑者也。且予對爾懷此感想、允非過情；蓋爾我神交心契、實為一體；故予之縲絏、亦即爾之縲絏；予之護道樹教、爾托主恩、亦與有功焉、

予之近狀、第吉各當為爾詳述。渠為吾所愛之兄弟、忠實事主之同寅也。
