A church leader is a manager of God’s household, so he must live a blameless life. He must not be arrogant or quick tempered; he must not be a heavy drinker, violent, or dishonest with money.

This is a revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants the events that must soon take place. He sent an angel to present this revelation to his servant John,

Once you were like sheep who wandered away. But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls.

But as the believers rapidly multiplied, there were rumblings of discontent. The Greek speaking believers complained about the Hebrew speaking believers, saying that their widows were being discriminated against in the daily distribution of food.So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said,“ We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program.And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility.Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word.”Everyone liked this idea, and they chose the following: Stephen( a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit), Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas of Antioch( an earlier convert to the Jewish faith).These seven were presented to the apostles, who prayed for them as they laid their hands on them.So God’s message continued to spread. The number of believers greatly increased in Jerusalem, and many of the Jewish priests were converted, too.

Before they are appointed as deacons, let them be closely examined. If they pass the test, then let them serve as deacons.In the same way, their wives must be respected and must not slander others. They must exercise self control and be faithful in everything they do.A deacon must be faithful to his wife, and he must manage his children and household well.Those who do well as deacons will be rewarded with respect from others and will have increased confidence in their faith in Christ Jesus.

Anyone who wants to serve me must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.

When he comes on that day, he will receive glory from his holy people— praise from all who believe. And this includes you, for you believed what we told you about him.

Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God’s people everywhere,

Paul went first to Derbe and then to Lystra, where there was a young disciple named Timothy. His mother was a Jewish believer, but his father was a Greek.Timothy was well thought of by the believers in Lystra and Iconium,so Paul wanted him to join them on their journey. In deference to the Jews of the area, he arranged for Timothy to be circumcised before they left, for everyone knew that his father was a Greek.

“ But Lord,” exclaimed Ananias,“ I’ve heard many people talk about the terrible things this man has done to the believers in Jerusalem!

I want you to know that our brother Timothy has been released from jail. If he comes here soon, I will bring him with me to see you.

When Timothy comes, don’t intimidate him. He is doing the Lord’s work, just as I am.

“ The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return.

You know how badly we had been treated at Philippi just before we came to you and how much we suffered there. Yet our God gave us the courage to declare his Good News to you boldly, in spite of great opposition.

Peter continued,“ This was written in the book of Psalms, where it says,‘ Let his home become desolate, with no one living in it.’ It also says,‘ Let someone else take his position.’

“ Write this letter to the angel of the church in Smyrna. This is the message from the one who is the First and the Last, who was dead but is now alive:

But he said,“ No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers the prophets, as well as all who obey what is written in this book. Worship only God!”

Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said,“ No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers and sisters who testify about their faith in Jesus. Worship only God. For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus.”
